this game is a classic and the first game i bought for the nintendo gamecube. i didn't bother with the remake, instead opting to just pick up the classic version on GOG and boy are there some issues but one in particular stands out for me and that is the save system is really broken. you can save but in spite of loading up to where you left off, this game will always pick up at the start of a level and here i am inside the emerald base, having deactivated all the generators and making it inside i hdecided to take a break and check to see if it picks up where i left off.... nope, have to play through the level from the start. im not sure if this can be patched but if you dont mind a flawed save system the game is stll a lotta fun, albeit somewhat infuriating at times.
dated but simple controls still a good time
had to rebind the keyboard settings but it's fun
took a bit to get it to run right on my win 10 pc which is old but still powerful enough to run this game. screen flickering gave me a devil of a time to fix but i was able to fix it by changing compatatibilty settings to disable full screen optimization (in Admin mode) changed display settings to minimized and kept my fingers crossed.
this game has really tested my patience with the vehicle sequences but the cover based shooting and the art style make up for the frustrations. It does have an excellent story that will make you wonder if you really like the protaganist or not as he is very morally ambiguous of a character, existing in a grey area of the ethical spectrum. Can't say i like him but maybe that's the point
