Shattered Steel

Hit and Collision Detection

Overall it seems like a decent game for its time but the main issue right now is the absolutely inacceptable hit and collision detection. It seems like every building is 3 times its actual size yet you're unable to hit is unless you target specific spots from equally specific angles. Likewise you can only hit a lot of enemies by targeting specific spots from certain angles. This problem is mostly tied to laser weapons as gatling guns seem to do way better, at least against mobile units. At the same time it seems like enemies and buildings have lots of varied hit zones enabling the player to destroy subsections of it. Like parts of a building that will fall off without damaging the entire structure or being able to shoot off an enemies head or a limb. Something must have gone severely wrong here and I'm not sure what but it's really hard to play a game like this when you can never be sure if you're hitting what you're shooting at even at point blank range. Difficulty also seems to be all over the place. One might be playing through several missions without any problems only to encounter something that's almost impossible to beat. Then it's suddenly easy again. Difficulty settings don't help in the least. Only buy this if you're ready for lots of frustration along the way.
