Having fond memories of Beneath a Steel Sky, I was excited to play this game. Playing with a controller felt really clunky - not sure if it is different with a keyboard. it felt like there were limited discoverable/actionable things to do besides go here, hack that, go here hack this then sit through a long cut-scene, explaining the story then repeat the same thing over again. We don't get to organically discover the story. Having played and loved many classic point and click/adventure games like the Unwritten Chronicles series, Syberia series, Runaway series, Broken Sword series - to name a few, it just felt really dull and disappointing to play. The story felt forced and most puzzles just involve positioning yourself in a the right place to hack something. And using your crowbar to open something. The complaints aside, the only thing that engaged me and kept me playing was the top notch voice acting!
Had to wait for a while for it to be released on GOG but that aside - it is an amazing game. I have a low grade gaming laptop I5 and was worried that it would not be playable - but it's amazing and works. Top Notch game - seriously I almost feel unworthy to play it.
The story was engaging enough but gameplay was boring. Game mechanics seem to be the one aspect that the gamemakers spent the least budget or effort on. The mouse 'hotspots' are sometimes centimeters away from the actual object, for example, in scenes on a train, the mouse hotspot was seemingly in the next carriage perspective-wise, which really takes away from the game immersion. Also when you click to leave an area or perform an action your character does sharp jumps and then does a weird moonwalk. Is it worth buying....? Well maybe if you were playing it with someone under 10 years old as there is an emphasis on education in the dialogue.
I bought this recently in the gog xmas sale. when I saw that it was in complete full motion video I expected it to be really crap. However I'm currently playing it and having a great time. The acting is quite believable and I've laughed a few times. The game puzzles aren't too challenging - but what makes this game is the characters.
