This game and its successor Last Light are great games with stories full of atmosphere and drama, how you play affects the ending I've played 2033 twice but been unable to get the alternative ending. There is plenty to do, the weapons are interesting fun to upgrade and in my opinion well balanced to meet different needs. Stealth is an option and in some sections essential to survive. When in areas where a gas mask is required there is also the imperative to complete the section before your supply of filters runs out. Saves are at regular auto save points and each save overwrites the previous meaning if you screw up badly you may need to restart the whole mission however, this can be avoided as you know when an auto save takes place plus, on quitting it saves current progress if you want more saves all you have to do is quit the game after a save go to the 4A file in documents and copy the save file to a different folder yes, it disrupts the game flow and can be annoying but, it does mean you needn't have to start at the very beginning of a mission if you screw up near the end, you can replay any section in a completely different way or just replay a section you enjoyed. It's not necessary to play 2033 before Half Light but, I would recommend it as you will understand Half Light a little better. I have these 2 on Steam but, will probably re-buy them on GOG during a sale, if you enjoy this type of game I would recommend the Stalker series also available on GOG.
I bought Merto 2033 + Last Light Redux a while back on a special double offer on Steam. Both games are amazing in all respects but, last light being the most recent is better than its predecessor. Some people who have played the originals claim that the Redux versions especially in 2033 are not always an improvement and in some cases affect the somber atmosphere of the game. In some sections you have a more experienced partner with you an element that some have found annoying and restrictive I did not find it a problem. The game is exciting and enjoyable with great graphics and a good story. Whilst it is a continuation of 2033 if you play 2033 first it gives you a good grounding for the events and play mechanics in Last Light but, playing 2033 first is not essential. Highly recommended if you are an FPS fan.
I purchased this as an upgrade to my original copy and got the 85% discount and from reading the reviews, the first said Dx 11 and I am running that ok so I went ahead however, what (unusually) I didn't read were the revised system requirements. I just assumed they were much the same as the original they are NOT it will only run on 64bit Windows, my machine is running 32 bit. Entirely my fault so I've decided to keep it because of the discount and on the basis my machine will need upgrading sometime anyway. GOG should make this information more prominent on the reviews page rather than in greyed out smallprint especially if an upgrade changes the operating system required.
The interface once you are used to it is very easy and informative. It is important to understand there are no easy or quick fixes every action has a reaction this will allow you to successfully manage your chosen country. However, there are some problems if you choose to play in certain ways. If you want to play your own country to reflect real current politics it does not really work properly. The electorates’ opinions are constantly in a state of flux as new information is made available and yet there is no option to make changes to certain initial policy popularity ratings. For example bio fuels have become controversial but, are given an automatic public policy support rating of about 70% it would be great if there were sliders for setting such ratings to reflect current opinion. You sometimes need to expend points to achieve realism. Play it as an imaginary political situation not as real life. A good and addictive game but, I feel that there should be far more options to manipulate the realism of the game for those that want to play as their country’s leader on a reasonably accurate model of today’s ever changing political stage. You could be leader of any country you wanted real or imaginary if you had the ability to set up all your own political parameters but, maybe that would not be a viable cost or programming option.
This is essentially a survival steath game and although it was released today there is still a lot more to come. I have been with this game since mid Alpha the developers are constantly on the forum in contact with the players and much of the game has been player driven. Basically you have to find and collect parts of a machine without being killed or starving whilst you are being hunted by various robotic adversaries. I have a very detailed review but limitations on size here prevent me posting it I will do so as soon as there is a community slot open for SYABH all I can say is it won't suit some but, for myself it is 70 hours and still playing. highly recommended
My first computer was a ZX81 (1981) so that dates me for a start. I played many text games over time including some of the Zork titles which were the best and I couldn't wait to play them again. Unfortunately, it seems my age and modern games have led to me being too impatient, I struggled for 2 hours with Zork 1, spent a lot of time being dead and finally gave up. I will certainly try again but, my collection of partially played modern games is making me delay doing it. Don't get me wrong the Zork games are very well written with a great sense of humour and a good challenge. Even though I read a lot and feel nostalga for the Zork games I was no longer up to the patience, work (drawing Maps) and mental effort required in a text game and this has disappointed me because I am missing replaying some great games which are a lot of fun. So, be warned, as good as the Zork text games are they may not or no longer be for you as a nostalga purchaser. If you feel the text versiona are not for you but, are still interested in playing a Zork game then I would recommend the graphic Zork games of which Grand Inquisitor is in my opinion the best.
OMG I remember playing this on my brand new Sinclair Spectrum I can't remember what Spectrum model I was using then I really enjoyed what I played but the Spectrum with its rubber keyboard wasn't the ideal games machine. I remember waiting for it to load from my little casette recorder and then loading the blank tape for my saves. I was new to adventure games and never got very far into it lack of time coupled with the less than user friendly machines those days. It was a truly amazing game for its time and from my experiences and ageing memory of gameplay I would recommend the game. I will probably buy it and perhaps visit the loft and get the tape and my spectrum out again just to remind myself how things used to be.
Never heard of this game before I bought it on GOG on special offer but, to me the playing experience was on a level with the first time that I played Half Life. I just couldn't stop playing it every moment I had spare and more until I had finished it. I had to resort to Youtube a few times for help and mostly this was because after being stuck for an hour or so I became too impatient to progress rather spend more time and work out the answer. Yes, the graphics aren't the best and the story is just ok the challenge for me was to use my team in the most efficient way possible and try to avoid death of any character as much as possible. Death results in regeneration at no power cost or progress loss, the downside is that this can cause the taking thoughtless risk or even committing suicide to repower yourself and your weapon, and because of this it reducees the challenge. What I enjoyed was that it was never too difficult to put me off from wanting to keep progressing. Highly recommended.
I bought this game when it was first released and the graphics even then were not good I played as Lotus simply because the male character was, to me, so badly modelled that I did not want to play using it. I remember there being equal moments of enjoyment and frustration and having to replay some sections many times. After completing it I never wanted to replay as the male character. The game unlike many others that I played during the 90's left no memorable moments even seeing the screenshots brought back no feelings of nostalga.
