    Description

It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above.

But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever. As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival – the last light in our darkest hour…

Great game, but only half of the saga.

I got this for 20 bucks for the PS4 on boxing day (Canada) and it really is one of the best story driven first person shooters I've ever played in recent times along with Bioshocks, and Wolfenstein: The New Order. The issue I have with this release is that it feels like half the game because you really need to play through Metro 2033 in order to get maximum enjoyment out of Last Light. I'd played Metro Last Light prior to 2033 on my PC few years ago and I didn't enjoy the story all that much, but playing the first game and then the second game in order in Redux truly made me appreciate LL. Take my review for what it's worth. On the side note, if you love the universe of Metro, I highly highly recommend the novels (Metro 2033 and 2034). The story in the novels is 10x better (for obvious reasons). It's less about shooting monsters, and more about exploring the world of Metro and experiencing some of the best psychological horror in science fiction. In fact, the book scared me more than the game as far as horror goes. Best books I've read in a long time.

It's a coup for GOG to get Metro!

Hugely atmospheric first person shooter, with a solid storyline based on the famous Metro books. This is the remastered version with better visuals and improvements to the original Last Light. The Metro series of games is one you shouldn't miss. Grab your gas mask, and head into the unknown.

    Not to be missed

I bought Merto 2033 + Last Light Redux a while back on a special double offer on Steam. Both games are amazing in all respects but, last light being the most recent is better than its predecessor. Some people who have played the originals claim that the Redux versions especially in 2033 are not always an improvement and in some cases affect the somber atmosphere of the game. In some sections you have a more experienced partner with you an element that some have found annoying and restrictive I did not find it a problem. The game is exciting and enjoyable with great graphics and a good story. Whilst it is a continuation of 2033 if you play 2033 first it gives you a good grounding for the events and play mechanics in Last Light but, playing 2033 first is not essential. Highly recommended if you are an FPS fan.

great game, but with many random crashes

The story follows directly after 2033 game, and fills the gap between the 2033 and 2035 novels. Overall, this is definitely an improvement over 2033. The levels are bigger, there's generally more variety with stronger emphasis on both stealth and exploration. The throwing knife is over-powered as far as stealth goes, and the weapons are just as good as before. The game also features more good set-pieces with nice mutant bosses that bring variety to the game. There are a few emergent elements in there as well- there was a section where I triggered a boss to attack me, but said boss was then attacked by the flying "demon" mutant whom I didn't kill, resulting in me observing 2 monsters fighting for territory and ignoring me, which was pretty great. As I already mentioned, stealth gameplay was improved, as the enemies were programmed to separate more on their patrols this time around, resulting in easier, more doable stealth kills. I felt there were less exotic guns this time around, but I did not delve deep into customization, having picked a shotgun/assault gun combo that served me well for most in-game situations. I also found myself having a lot more money this time around, perhaps because playing 2033 and Last Light back to back I learned to explore better by Last Light. The story benefited from non being compared to the book, and it felt more varied, as 4A took more liberties with describing the life in the Metro, rather than having people quote anecdotes from the book verbatim. overall, the atmosphere and mission design coalesced into a much better experience. However, there was a technical issue that prevents me from rating this game higher- crashes. Inexplicable, frequent crashes. starting in Safe Mode as recommended by the game helped to reduce, but did not eliminate this problem. The generous auto-save system meant I didn't lose too much progress because of this, but they were still annoying and would jar me straight out of the experience.
