I've played this game for over 100 hours at the time of this review primarily LAN with my father. We both love this game. The things I don't like... I admitedly don't engage much with the social dynamic part (feels like "give me things and I'll love you", witch fyi does not work irl, I have first hand experience), it's dumb how you get the key to the sewer, and the social commentary against just buying fixes to your problems vs the "all hands on deck" ideology... which doesn't work in my opinion: you pay for and/or fix everything and farm almost completely by yourself... like wtf were these people doing before you came? You come through and make good money off your own work, everyone takes advantage by raising prices, and now it's up to you to just fucking fix everything for everyone? lol? And this bs of them giving you 1 item or sorta kinda helping a tiny bit... yet the real work is done completely by you, but the game seems to frame it as if the whole town did it. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who enjoyed having the house built for a certain someone and not telling them it was me... though irl there's no way they wouldn't figure out it was the new rich guy in town that's been buying and fixing everything lol BUT I do love the game xD trust me :P It's a farm sim with other "things" and it's a good fun game, especially in co-op! These indies are killing it bro.
I know nobody will agree with me, I'm used to that by now, but I feel I need to air this. I bought Early Access and aquired this for free. However, I don't agree with this even existing. I think if you want to reward EA purchasers, don't do it with in-game items, because it then turns it into a microtransaction (if you really like those items) that you would have to buy because you didn't buy the game before it officially released. This is not ok, microtransactions are not acceptable in a full price single player game, and people not willing to risk buying something before it's complete shouldn't be punished with higher costs in this way. Reward EA people with concept art, character sheets, artwork etc etc, but NEVER in-game items. Cosmetics or not, useful or not, this can tug at someone with fomo and it's not neccesary at all. My 2 cents, probably not worth the shit to anyone who reads, but such is life. BG3 is a very good game though, thanks Larian Studios. :)
Not many these days. I have not played BG1-2 at the time of this review, but this game doesn't do very much wrong. The gameplay is great, though the camera can be annoying sometimes. The difficulty is mostly great (some spikes). The graphics are great. The character builds and theory crafting are great. The story is... pretty good, some parts including the main story kinda piss me off with how it feels like you have a choice, but you really don't. Ultimately this is a chunky game with plenty of fun to be had even for full price.
This game is random, but really fun. Sometimes I didn't get anything for items, then sometimes I was stacked and smashed my way through every encounter. However, the very ending is this unacceptably cheap finale boss with cheap tactics that have not been in the entire game once. The final fight feels completely out of place and the difficulty spike is ridiculous.
This game isn't perfect. But the story is fantastic, the combat is the best in any RPG I've played, and the pawn system is pretty neat (though I didn't care too much for it.) For me I am upset I took too long to finally try this game out. Climbing onto a dragon, popping mushrooms while beating the shit out of his heart with a hammer as he's flailing around trying to knock you off. WOW, this game is FUN. The story is also really enjoyable if you care about lore. The new game + is absolutely fantastic as well.
Mafia 1: I never played the original, but I liked this "remake"? more than the other 2. What a great story, great graphics, the driving is the best, the gunplay is great, just a really good remake. Mafia 2: I played this back when it released and loved it. I get almost every game from GOG to run with ease, but the other edition wouldn't work for me (single core is not an option lol). But THIS DE edition is perfect, NO issues, runs out the box. Awesome game, gunplay and driving, very much similar to the first one. Mafia 3: Things got pretty different, but I enjoyed it. Aside from needing some graphical mods to fix the weird lighting changes (still happen, just not as noticeable), this game plays more like a busy work open world, but I enjoyed it. The driving is... ok... to me it was too modernized. The story is slightly over the top and less crime drama, but it was fun nonetheless. It feels like they were making a GTA Mafia game, and I like it, but I feel leaning more into what they did with the 1 remake is FAR better. All 3 of these games are worth a try imo. I hope we keep getting Mafia games! :)
Great pacing, good difficulty (hardcore is not just permadeath but also secretly more difficult... I think?), nice artistic direction, awesome deckbuilder and theory crafting... From what I've read many of the annoyances or bugs or personal preferences many people wanted (respec, station liveliness, etc) were implemented, so these devs pay attention. I am looking forward to what these guys make next, or more DLC, bring it on. :)
I know this will get downvoted, that's fine. If you love the game, more power to you! I've played Fallout 4, 3 and now New Vegas. (unmodded!) New Vegas is infuriating. Difficulty is not even close to being balanced on Very Hard. Weapon descriptions and VATS lies to you about how much damage you will do. "Dungeon" layouts can be confusing and very reliant on you getting the 1 item from the 1 container and you'll end up backtracking. The "Local Map" is a joke. The story was pretty decent, but I am very dissapointed in how lackluster it is (not to mention it ends your playthrough...) after hearing so much insane praise for it. It was ok. The boss fight at the "end of the road" was an absolute joke. Enemies will just spawn in front of you if you try to use any tactics. I still like the game, but Fallout 3 and 4 both were far better in these regards. Bethesda gets a lot of flak sometimes, but they know how to make a fun GAME with decent or passable story. New Vegas is a frustrating game with decent story. Guess we know what I value more.
