I don't know what's happening to some of the guys posting 1 star reviews, but this isn't a 1 star game for sure. Some were probably expecting a MechCommander like game? I was lucky I guess and personally got what I wanted out of this game, I'm at about 30 hours, haven't had a single crash or lost a single save so far, yes the game has some loading issues and after 2-3 hours of continuous playtime it starts to slow down way too much (usually restarting it fixes it, but this is still a big issue imo). Turn-based mech combat? Check Battletech lore? Check Customization of mechs, mechwarriors and ship? Check Light RPG mechanics? Check This is what I was waiting for, I'm genuinely sorry for the ones having stability issues as I agree this shouldn't happen in a 40 Euro game.

Imagine if killing went on today despite vilification, then imagine a game that tasked you with killing other people... Oh wait 80% of the games do that! So let's make this clear, this is a game, and is not a game that tries to promote whale hunting, it's a game that tries to promote some gameplay and a story, does it succed? Imo it does, you get some good Melville feelings, while still being able (if you are an intelligent human being) to realize that this is a game and killing whales in real life isn't a good thing. The RNG is there but is the kind of good RNG, the sailor songs that form time to time pop-up are really a nice addition. Or you could side with the guys bashing this game and being considered like those bigots that in the eighties where sure that playing D&D was like worshipping satan.
I truly believe there is no other 4x (new or old) that even comes close. A plethora of options to customize your game, the usual ones (size of the galaxy, race, sotryline, etc...), but more important the ability to decide how much you want to micro-manage your empire. You can decide you want to take care of everything, from building ships/starbases, to perform reserach, to directly command ships. Or you can decide you don't want any kind of management in your hands, the AI will take care of everything, literally everything, and you can just watch it play your empire (maybe by commanding a single ship?). Ok I lied, you won't be able to control everything, the private ships/activities are out of your hands, yes you got it right, your empire is not only inhabited by your state/military ships and stations, but also by private ships that are the ones actually making it run (as in real life). One last option? You can decide to play as a pirate and harras AI's empires, not my favorite option, but is there.
