That pretty much sums it up for me, not going to focus on bugs, glitches and graphics, in part because I waited almost 2 years to buy it, but also because I didn't experience any major technical issue. What sours the taste for me is the potential for the game to be what I was hoping, the potential you see during the prologue and that gets lowkey thrown out of the window when the main story kicks in. I'm not even "mad" about being lied to, I was expecting from CDPR a game like the Witcher which is not a deep (mechanic wise) RPG, it's a story driven action RPG and that's what I got with CP77, probably gave up a little bit more or "rpg" but not that much. The issue is that by playing Geralt I was playing a well written character I liked, by playing V... I'm playing a bland and blank sheet of nothingness which would be nice if this was a proper RPG where I can make it "mine", but no I can't do that either because an other character (the one writing effort was put into) takes the lead so to speak, what's the problem you say? 1 - This is not a game based on a series of novels and stories, it's based on an RPG setting where these charters are there to create the setting, but as a background while you are left struggling to make your own name. 2 - (very personal opinion) I simply don't like Keanu... erm Silverhand, never been a Keanu fanboy so that aspect is not there, and to be honest also Silverhand has never been one of the most interesting charcaters in the setting. Note - Yes I know you could roleplay as Silverhand in some scenarios-written adventures, but never liked running premades when playing tabletop.
Each game Logic Artists develops gets exponentially better! Conquistador was a total surprise, rough around the edges but full of potential, Viking was a huge step forward, with still some details to nail down, Rome is... well yet another improvement: Polished turn-based combat. Promising storyline (only played 5-6 hours of it), with full Voice Over and good RPG elements. Very cool strategic layer, building your legio, your camps, and retinue of centurions. The legion's battles are a bit simplistic, but are just yet an extra ingredient in a very good buffet. Last but ot least, yes it's voice acted in English, but a lot of effort was put into trying to pronounce names and roles as close to what Latin was as possible, just a plus. :)
Sometimes you find gems, Stellar Tactics is a gem (another example was Kenshi in 2011-12), games that have huge potential, but even in their very early dev stages are already playable and enjoyable. This is the project of a single person, it will probably take years before it gets completed, bught it couple of years ago on Steam, now also on here, it has already more content than many release games. RPG, Turn-Based Combat, Squad Managament, Storyline... but then you realize that's the tutorial, then the game opens up and becomes some sort of EVE Offline, still retaining all other aspects... 1 word to describe it, mindblowing!
This is a great game, very cool art style, good, and fun gameplay. People compare it to Darkest Dungeon, yes there are elements (quite a few) in common, but the combat strikes to me more close to JRPGs, the good ones, only with cards, and interesting ones. The again I have a really soft spot for gritty sci-fi settings and the art style, reminds me so much of Mike Mignola's Hellboy... A game really worth a buy!
The game is great, literally what I was hoping for, an "old style" RPG, way more a successor of Bladur's Gate than, let's say, Pillars or Divinity. There's a huge issue thou, as of release the game is really in a bad functional state, this is why it gets 4 instead of 5 stars from me. . It has no Italian localization, thou to launch it I had to download from google drive an Italian .json otherwise I could see NO text at all, mind you this was a solution suggested by the devs themselves, and no I couldn't change the language form the launcher. . The loading time at the start are atrocious, I'm running an SSD, and still it takes minutes to get to the main menu (afterwards it loads smoothly). . It's very prone to crashes/freezes, last session I logged back to the main menu, wanted to create a second character, well nothing worked anymore, had to rebooth the game from scratch. These issues (and others) will be very likely fixed with patches, but until then, I can't consider this a 5 star game.
