Armikrog

mostly solid entertainment

For all the negative reviews, "Armikrog" definitely exceeded expectations. The developers must have addressed some of the issues by now. There were occasional bugs--sound and captions periodically going out, issues with saving games--but the game was far from unplayable. Good acting, solid story, challenging yet rewarding puzzles. I wish the game had offered a way to skip cutscenes, played the hints in predictable order (sometimes you would get the same hint three times in a row), made the save process a little easier. Small annoyances which kept it just shy of perfect yet overall a worthwhile purchase.

1954 Alcatraz

Solid offering from Daedelic

I enjoyed this game--good story, strong acting, logical gameplay. It took me a solid day (with breaks) to finish, and I found it fairly relaxing as it never bordered too far into frustration, and I never felt compelled to look up a cheat. My only complaint is that it seems somewhat shorter than other Daedelic offerings with maybe not quite enough challenge. At full price it seems not really good bang for the buck but on sale, it is a satisfying purchase.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2

Just what I wished for.

I've been waiting for this one to go on sale, and when it did I snapped it up. It delivers just as it's meant to...a revisiting of beloved characters, fun story and genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Gameplay is similar to the original, sometimes infuriating, sometimes too easy. There were a couple of almost unforgivably annoying moments when necessary items do not become available until after certain scenes are played, necessitating revisiting areas that you thought were cleaned-out. There was at least one time when a bug prevented an item from showing up as being "collectible" and would never have discovered it except I finally resorted to a walk-through...which I HATE having to do. The biggest downer was having to play as Wilbur, because his bad Scottish accent would grate at me after a few minutes. However, I still merit the game as 5 stars because all the annoyances did not prevent me from enjoying the game and I was solidly entertained for several days; well worth the wait and the money.
