Great game with friends

This game is a lot of fun to play with friends, it is fun, quick, and there is a constant back and forth on who is in the lead. It has a great dynamic, rewards that get unlocked as you play more, fun battles, cool bosses, the graphics could stand to be a bit crisper, but it still looks good when you are playing. Fun fun fun.

Master of Orion 3

Worst disappointment

MOO1 and 2 were such good games. This was actually one of the first games I bought the week it came out. I brought it home and played that night. I quickly got confused and found myself trying to follow what was even happening in the game. I played and really tried to enjoy it. I finally gave up and just kept hitting end of turn to see what would happen. After a while the game told me I had won. I just stared at the screen in disbelief. I had done nothing and had won the game. I couldn't quite see the point of playing after that, though I did try a couple times later when I was older. But each time I see the same problems and remember why I was so disappointed. It really makes me sad to see this game on GOG. Buy MOO1 and 2 instead. Please.

M.A.X. + M.A.X. 2

Excellent game then, and still great

This is one of the few old school games I continue to come back to again and again. I love the balance of long term strategic upgrades vs. tactical short term attack and defense. The game strikes an excellent balance between different attack styles and you can take different paths to victory depending on your style. The game does suffer from some bugs. Games can start crashing on VERY long running play throughs. But autosaves and quick load times make that less of an issue. The graphics are a bit dated, but still good, and the dynamic scaling and you zoom in and out has stood up to the test of time. I played M.A.X. when it first came out and enjoyed it, and still come back every year or two to play it for another 20-40 hours. I tried M.A.X. 2 from this package but just didn't find it as enjoyable for some reason. So I still load up the classic version when I want to play. The only main gripe (apart from random crashes) is the lack of random maps. You are stuck with the 12-20 that come with the game, and can't generate any more. Despite those issues though, I plan to continue playing this every few years, and appreciate GOG bringing it back for me to enjoy.
