The difference between the first and the second game reminds me of the difference between the first and the second "Simon The Sorcerer" games. Except this time the difference is way worse. Illogical puzzles, action sequences, cruelty, these are the things you have to face if you start to play this game. It's a sad disappointment compared to the first instalment.
Simple action/platformer game. Gets repetitive and frustrating really fast. Created with controller in mind, PC controls are terrible, it is not possible to set character movement to movement keys. Only buy it when it's on sale, or if you have some bucks and time to waste. The graphics look really good, it's really sad that there is no depth.
This game was the first in the line of Quantic Dream's infamously terrible, dumb, pointless adventure games. Terrible mechanic, meaningless game-play, dumb story, worthless voice-acting, probably because of the terrible writing, obviously made for game consoles and controllers in mind. Avoid it, doesn't worth a penny!
The longest Journey is the best Adventure game ever made. It defines the whole genre. It's a classic p&c adventure game. No need to stealth or fight in this game, because it's an adventure game! It has a very long story, which touches your heart so much you almost feel pain when it ends. Don't mind the graphics, don't mind the low screen resolution, the story grabs you and takes you away in a minute and holds you so tight you feel sorry when it finally lets you go. The puzzles are not too hard, and you only need your mind to play this game, no matter if you have two left hands, no additional physical skill needed whatsoever (not like in so called adventure games these days!). It (obviously) surpasses it's POS sequel, but that's another story. Longest Journey has no fighting, no quick-time events, no time limit to answer in dialogs, no stealth, none of this sh*t just to boost sales by making it interesting for casual players. A must have and must play!
The Longest Journey is the origo point amongst the point and click adventure games. Syberia managed to do something that no other adventure games could do before: it had almost the same emotional effect on me as The Longest Journey (the first, and in my opinion the only one) did. It's a beautiful, touching game. Maybe the puzzles are not too challenging, just like in The Longest Journey, but the emotional reward is on such a high level compared to most of the adventure games released these days, that it is definitely worth the price. I do not really like games made these days, especially casual ones, I only know less than a dozen games which I would recommend because they are really worth the time someone "wasting" on them. Syberia is one of the few.
