This has spoliers to a side mission, but its hard to describe without it. I'll be vague. but first ,If you can't remap the keyboard keys you have a problem. I was able to remap on day one before any patches hit. So I had a mission, simple go rescue a doctor from a gang that kidnapped her. I clear out the goons and find the doc, she won't leave because she is working on gang member. She asked for help to save him so I just up and shot the guy in the face. And entire scene played out where she chews me out for it. So I reload my save and try to save him, but I am not fast enough and he dies. I try again and save him. All three had unique dialog. But the fact It had dialog for 'thinking outside of the box' was so amazing.
Not a huge adventure gamer, but as a huge MBR fan I picked up the game. The cyber punk vibe is very well done, with the graphics and music in perfect sync. The puzzles are better than previous adventure games I have played and fit the style of the game well, if you are familure with old school hacker culture. (ever order a pizza as a prank?) Check it out if you are into cyberpunk or the whole synth wave style.
Do you like a shooter that has famous actors or musicians doing the voices as you are gently guided down a hallway of a level to see the next cut scene filled with exposition? Maybe have some quest markers to help find the next part of the level? Maybe have regenerating health to make it streamlined to help you out? Well, don't get this. This has huge levels with multiple paths loaded with secrets. Brutal combat and zero hand holding. If you want a great shooter that is challenging and fun, this is for you.
When this game was anounced I was very excited. Symphony of the Night is my favorite Castlevania that has been copied mutiple times, but nothing has captured its charm. I did my best to avoid to reading about the game so I would have a very blind through and it was worth it. The voice actors in the game are a nice suprise! Bloodstained gets better and better as you go. If you think that mysterious ghostly sword would drop as familar, well your right. And does it level up so you can use it yourself? Yes! I want to add more than 5 stars, esecially after I found a lady demon that set me on fire with a guitar that was playing heavy metal.
This game is hard. This game is borderline unfair. If you are of a certain age and remember what NES hard is (or really like classic games) then you will feel at home. I highly recommend to read the manual because its so full of 90's attitude that it makes the experiance that much better. Get this game if you are looking for a throw back to the old days were games were hard to extend the play time. Avoid it if you don't like a challenge. I rate it four stars simply because certain parts of the game, if you make one mistake you might as well restart the level. The levels are very short, taking just a few minuts to complete, but after playing other new retro games like Blaster Master on the switch I didn't have the patience for it.
