Before we begin i have no nostalgic ties to this series. but I have always wanted to give it a go and thanks to gog i now can. The complete catacombs complete pack give you 4 fps games under the catacombs brand as well as a 2 top down versions and a dangerouse dave game. The basic game play is you walk around a dungeon picking up potions power up and tresure. To defeat your enemy you have quick fire balls you can mash out or hold down for a more deadly fire ball, these are not your only means of destroying your foes you have nukes and you can make them taste your lightning .You can also use your attack to break walls and find secrets. The usere interface is plain its not a bad thing but do you rember in DOOM and wolfenstein your face gets messed up well in catacombs you lose all your flesh and become a skeleton unless you heal your self that i think is a cool feature. thats prety much it apart from one track playing constanly that fits the game very well (only in catacombs 3d games) overall this game you get alot for the £4.75 price tag but i got it on sale for just over £1 but it is a must have for the vintage gamer intrested in the fps history and every adult man or woman who wants to relive the nostalgia of being there younger selfs again.

Doom revolutionised pc gaming with its weapons level designe and co op and untill quake came along its multiplayer 4 man deathmatch. Another thing that set doom apart was for its at the time rock n roll gore fest as you watch and hear your foes hit the ground melt and cry for their agorny to end. This has only gotten better with age and 20 years of tinkering under the hood of the juicy sorce code the doom modding scene has made every thing from alines the movie total conversion mod to running the game on a toaster but where the gore dose get better is brutal doom and project brutality Where gore and weapons are cranked up to a rock n roll 11 so if your a younger gamer thinking the game looks old as hell then these mods are for.you because they give you all the modern features you have in games today And its even now 3d not a 2d cover up personaly i like to play vanilla doom as much as i can as some maps with new features like jump are broken so you skip half a level But this is why this game is all you will ever need as you have endless suply of maps and mods. Hell why not make your own levels with the level editor play over the wonderful world wide web. In all honesty what more can you want from a first person shooter.
