This game does have more flaws than the first game but it is still good. Just a couple warnings on this game. I find this game to be a little more clunky and not as polished as the first game. The controls dont respond as well. Also, the voice acting in this game is a crime against humanity. I have nightmares of it. Overall though I do like the mechanics that were added from the first game. Still a solid title. I know that there was an amazing modding community around this game as well and I am looking forward to trying out mods on this game.
This was a game I looking for the day I registered on GOG. I was so disappointed that it wasnt there at the time. So glad it was added now. I downloaded and played it again immediately. this game held up over time. The campaign was great and I personally never had a crash, This game always did crash on me before. I was very happy with this release.
I get that this was a very buggy game at launch, and I ran into a bunch when I first played it. But now that it has been patched this is exactly the kind of rpg I love. If you don’t like heavy dialogue games, then this game isn’t for you. This is not all combat so be ready for that. There is a lot of city dialogue and character building. The one thing I don’t like about the game is that the main quest is timed. There’s a lot of timers in this game and I wish that I just had more down time in the game to explore. But overall I love the mechanics and style of the game. If you love tabletop rpgs then you would love this game.
I have read other reviews saying that this was extremely grindy and that you constantly have to just keep repetitively doing tasks. After playing it for a while I would say, yes that is true. The further you get into the game the more you have to go back and just do repetitive tasks endlessly. It seems a bit excessive at times because there are times I want to focus on other parts of the game but I can't. It is still fun though, if you like these types of games. Other than that, it is a management simulator that requires some strategy. Not sure what else to say about it.
All of the reviews talking about how this has so much of the typical JRPG lines and sometimes very cringy dialogue are absolutely correct. If you are put off by that then this game is not for you. It is also fairly standard fare for JRPG gameplay. So it is kind of more of the same. So if you like those things you will like this game. If that is not your thing, then make no mistake, that is what you will be getting here. For me, it was nice because I had finished my previous JRPG series and wanted another fix. This was exactly the kind of game I was looking for. Sometimes the dialogue is a bit over the top, but that is what I have come to expect. For me the quests are typical and fun. I like the story of how you come to pick up quests. It is also a healthy length game so you are getting your moneys worth. It appears to be about a 40 hour game if you take your time on all of the quests. Overall a good JRPG.
