I played Fallout 1 in October 2013, and the game's environment, character customization and role-playing is exceptional...but the developers don't explain how important the stat system is, and the glitches are potentially game-ruining (so save frequently!). If your character's intelligence is too low, you won't be able to do any quests. Realistic, but the game doesn't warn you about this. It's never clear how high a certain skill (let's say Science) has to be, to disable a nuclear bomb. As for game-ruining glitches, at several moments, if you act in a way AI did not expect, you may not be able to complete the game normally. (SPOILER? In an especially funny glitch, I got kidnapped by a mutant, who was supposed to torture me, but I escaped by clicking to run away, and he was too slow to catch me--it was intended that you would have to fight him. In another play-through, the mutant never noticed me and just let me walk by. Anyway, when I escaped my torturer, I couldn't complete the main campaign anymore, because certain events had been triggered in the wrong order. Nonetheless, a very enjoyable game.
