Cross Tails

Half-baked game

Everything in the game feels cheap: the story is really cheap, the class system is pretty classic but IMO worse than its predecessors (class levels unlock new classes, but since you buy skills with cash, you can "master" a class in which you're level 1), the difficulty is all over the place... Last but not least, I usually play this genre to feel clever (cleverer than a few lines of codes anyway, let's not get carried away), but in this game, I feel pretty stupid. Eg: even if I know there is a trap somewhere, I don't have skills to disarm it, the enemies don't trigger it and it may be impossible to bypass. So you walk on it. And feel dumb. So yeah, you should avoid the game. And it's a genre with so many gems that it should be too hard to find a better game to play instead.

Vambrace: Cold Soul

First impression: slow and uninteresting

I've hardly played more than one hour, but my first impression is... pretty bad. First, the game is slow: you can run in town but not outside, there is a bit of text that doesn't print fast enough for my taste (though I have to admit that amything that isn't instant isn't far enough for me), and the combat animations are slowish. And the combat itself doesn't sound interesting: it's basically Darkest Dungeon, but with neither the choice of skill (every character has only a normal attack and a special once they can use every so often) nor the importance of placement (or at least, it's a very basic one). I will give it another shot tomorrow, but had I bought it on another store, I would have asked a refund.

Mary Skelter: Nightmares

What you would expect from that studio.

I know, I'm a fool, but I had an itch for a good dungeon crawler and this game was cheap and had descent reviews. The title of mine, by the way, may be a little misleading since they seemed to have toned down (somewhat) the kind of content that I'm pretty sure is illegal in some countries (for those who have never played a game by Idea Factory, you have a lot of very young looking gals in revealing clothes and who keep making sexual innuendoes and jokes about the size of other characters' boobs). As for the crawling itself, there are some good ideas I suppose: for exemple, in combat, your main character isn't able to fight, but he's the only one who can use objets - others can, but with a special skill - he can protect a fighter so if she's targeted, he's taking the hit for her, or he can spread his blood on her to lower her corruption (1- Yes, it does make some sense in univers, 2- In my first point, I did say they've SOMEWHAT toned down the sexual content, you still have to spread you bodily fluid on some scantily dressed underage girls). On the other hand, I find the level design boring. I know it's probably subjective, but I see no point in going back to that game. So all in all, the game is better than the previous game from that studio (that doesn't say much) but it still looks like I'll have to dust my ds to scratch my itch.
