I've played Mary Skelter Nightmares, and was expecting about the same, but there are just enough new mechanics, and a lot more balancing so the combat does not get boring. Since the game was originally made for Switch when you are roaming in the world the textures are not as nice as in the first game, but the menus and the drawn avatars are just beautiful. I recommend trying this out if you are into turn based RPGs with a sweet but mysterious narrative!
Although the prologue is a 2-3 hour drag, the game opens up afterwards and there are a lot of things to do. I love the detail they put into the environments and how people are dressed and how buildings are furnished. I'm getting used to the combat, which is strange at first but different from all the other games out there.
