Warning. Don't buy. Game is outdated.

Please don't support these scam devs by buying this game. The game is missing two updates since about 2 years and neither dev nor publisher is replying to mails or messages on discord, facebook or twitter. The last update improved the introduction section of the game and added additional features ... but not on GOG. I really hope that these devs will go out of business soon since such practices should never survive. Please don't support them. They have already anounced a sequel to this one (since the game does not have a final end) ... they don't have any shame. GOG is doing absolutely nothing to change this. I asked several times and created countless tickets. PLEASE DON'T BUY.

This game is just what I was looking for

I am a big fan of Jrpgs, but the stereotypical characters and writing usually makes me feel like I am watching a sub-par anime. I was hesitant to play this game at first, being a JRPG looking game with English voice actors. As I am one of those snobs that likes to play jrpgs in Japanese. I am so sorry I waited so long to get this game just because of that. This game threw me for a loop, as I was just cringing at the mentioning of someone wielding a giant double bladed sword - but then I realized, holy crap, this is funny. This game is about making fun of the genre, and it does so while at the same time captivating you with a story that hooks you in from the very start. I won't spoil anything here. I want to say I should have bought this game years ago, but I am happy to buy it now that it is DRM free here on GOG. Tired of DRM making my two thousand dollar computer chug like thomas the train.

Pleasent Surprise.

I'll admit I bought the game knowing little to nothing about it (Learned about it the day before) and bought it mostly as a sign of support for the developers. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a fun game out of it. The game is semi open world with turn based battles that use a hex system ala Wild Arms 4 (move between hexes to get close to an enemy and attack them, cornering enemies by cutting of escape paths, using special attacks to interrupt the enemies turn etc). At first the system looks stupid simple but eventually you will start making up some crazy, one turn kill strategies (necessary on higher difficulties). The setting is rather unique and if I had to compare it to something it would be the old Phantasy Star games. Sword and Sorcery mixed with hard sci fi. Clerics casting fireballs at heavy mechs with rocket launchers are a common occurrence here. What I found funny is how self aware the story is. The characters tend to poke fun at classic JRPG tropes only to have brutal reality punch you in the gut. It never goes full grim dark though. If I had to criticize something it would be the clear lack of polish at places. The game was clearly made on a budget which is very visible in the character animations and some model designs. Some HUD elements look like place holders sometimes. It's nothing game braking but if you are one of those people paying attention to such things it might hit you on the eyes.

Missing some updates

Like MarkoH01 said the game missing the two last updates and there's a high chance it won't receive them. Since the devs seem hostile on Discord over GOG customers. And the studio was bought by NACON. (i know it's not the publisher written on this store page) I contacted NACON : to ask if those updates could be release to GOG. I received empty promises. But i learnt a few points ; - The Studio is a small team and right now are working on the sequel of this game : i don't see a reason to not send those updates to GOG. After all they updated the game on Steam and GOG (maybe others stores ?) till the 1.3.1 version for the later. Do not providing those updates because they are working on the sequel isn't my problem and an excuse : i bought a game on GOG and i want the game completely updated. If they can't honor their contract to the end why release the game here in the first place ? The game should be busted from the store : the devs and the publisher didn't respected fully their contract. Furthermore the sequel should be refused here for this behaviour. So my advice is : either do not buy this game OR wait the game completely updated (i could be dreaming)

First of all, it's a decent game, generally worth buying. It has problems, mostly stemming from inexperienced direction, such as a bland prologue environment, confused item categorization and enemy design, and a few other things that an experienced dev would know how to fix. (Camera control is unpolished as well) But! what keeps me playing is the characters, and their dialogue. Whoever made them, and wrote their lines, knew what they were about. The core cast basically carries the game.
