The overal design of combat and the bases is good. My main dislike of this game is that the entire thing is basically just a timer. Enemies automatically 'evolve' into better and better forms without you doing anything. There is nothing to indicate this is actually a response to the players weapons, so I think it's purely timer based. There are also a bunch of other timers, including research and recovery. The main problem with these is that the game moves VERY fast even from the beginning. You don't have time to heal up a squad of soldiers before each new thing happens. This means you have to take little or no damage, or you are at a massive disadvantage. Even if every soldier has a healing kit, this doesn't work out in the harder missions. This combination of attempts to provide artificial sense of urgency just angers me.
The game itself is mostly awsome! The only thing wrong with it is the ending, where enemies have infinite spawns and you do not! The modern version however is just a drm removal... there's no UI scaling, nor text scaling! On a modern monitor, this makes it extremely difficult to even read the text. If they ever added text & ui scaling this game would get 5 stars! In it's current state, it is a 3 due to all the problems playing it. If you ever enjoyed this game, it might be worth buying just to have in your library. If they ever add UI & text scaling, it'd be a 5 star game!
The models, music and story are all great! The story is evocative and emotional. The only downside to this game is that the animated sequences are very janky. Buy this for the story and you won't regret it! Buy it for wank material and you might regret it.
I fun story with lots of sexy times. However, after awhile the characters are endearing and you get invested. The only real downside is the minigames... they tend to get annoying. I can easily ace the fighting minigame, but can't solve a single picture puzzle one... and keeping my hands steady for the beer one is a 50/50 chance to win each one. This is NOT a completed story; I'm guessing the second one finishes it. Still, if you like this sort of VN, go for it!.... especially on sale, it's a great deal!
