Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy

Good atmosphere, puzzles and story

The title says all, and if you are into astrology you will enjoy the game even more. Although the game can feel a bit clunky at first, due to the fact that the keyboard is not used (only the space bar works and is used to skip videos and texts), and everything is done using the left and right mouse buttons; after a few minutes, I got the hang of it and found it to be well designed. The right mouse button opens the inventory, which is rather complex and full of functionalities, and it is also the way to access the main menu of the game. Everything in the inventory is located in such a way everything is clear and easy to use. The objects inventory slots, the special tools section (quill, scissors, magnifying glass and more), the documents section, the recipes section, the section in which dialogues are recorded and can be read again... Everything is well thought out and easy to use. The game is not overly difficult, although there is some pixel hunting here and there, and there are times in which it is not clear enough what the approach to some puzzles should be. But that doesn´t prevent the game from being enjoyable. Make sure to check the documents in the inventory in a regular basis and don´t forget that the magnifying glass and other tools are there for a reason. I liked the ending very much.

Beautiful

The first thing about this game that caught my attention was the looks. It has a very good cyberpunk dystopian style, it looks very good. Sadly, that´s the only part of the game that is excellent. After playing it, there are two things that I feel could have been easily improved and sadly hinder the game´s overall quality. The story, which is nearly nonexistent; and the excesive lenght that increase the feel of repetitiveness. The story is nearly nonexistent. But that wouldn´t have been necessarily bad, if not for the fact that there is very little text describing what´s going on and were the game is headed. What are the goals of the player? There is too little info to enrich the game. There are lore notes that explain the world´s situation and what´s going on with the goverment and corporations. And between missions, there are some messages from 2 characters that give the player the chance to take decissions. And that´s fine, but it is not enough to thread the 75 missions the player needs to go through to reach the end of the game. And to top it all of, the ending is kind of dissapointing (there are 2 or 3 of them). The other problem is the excessive lenght. The game might seem repetitive. There are 6 areas the player has to go to, to carry out the 75 missions. Those 6 areas look very good and distinctive from one another, but although they are randomized, having to go to the same places a dozen times can be boring in the long term. If the campaign was only 50 missions long, for example, it would be better. Combatwise, there are 8-10 character clasess that can be given cyberenhancements, each with their own habilities that can combine with other classes´ to create synergies and make combats fun. But I only found one truly useful strategy during combats. Game can be fun, and is beautiful. I really enjoyed it. But it is an indie game, and it shows. I played it in short spurts. Had I tried to finish the game in a short period of time, it would have bored me.

King's Bounty: Warriors of the North - Complete Edition

Worthy being played (3 and a half stars)

If you liked TL and CW and you have the itch for a new KB game, I don´t see why WotN I&F would not satisfy you. -Bugs and crashes: I haven´t found many. A secondary mission I couldn´t finish, a set whose bonusses didn´t work on the character, a crash when asking a vendor to see his goods, and 2 more sudden crashes during a game that was around 80 hours long. Not a big deal. It´s clear that the game was rushed when it was released. Hence all the complaints about bugs. And it is even more clear after having played the game with the DLC. I&F ads a new island. but also lots of secondary missions linked to the other islands of the game and a new area in the Demonis map. It is so deeply integrated into the main game that I can´t help but think those parts were left out of the initial release due to time constraints. Added later as a DLC. The DLC is a must have to enjoy the game to its fullest. -I played the game on Hard difficulty with the warrior class. And the game felt a little too long and easy. But The Legend felt too long for me too (that last maze was a nuissance) and Crossworlds also felt easy on Hard difficulty with the warrior class (not as easy as Warriors of the North, though). If I knew this, I would have started the game in Impossible difficulty. Perhaps I´m becoming too good playing this game series. -The game adds new Viking units that are much more fun and interesting than the ones in Crossworlds, a new rune system to tinker with during combats, and a new magic class (Rune Magic) to add to the other four. The game reuses some maps from The Legend. The four Darion areas and the two pirate islands. That´s it. The other 12 or so areas are new. So the fact that some areas are taken from the first game is not a big deal to me. In fact, I think it was interesting to revisit these areas, taking into account this game is a sequel to the first two, and we can see how the pass of time and the different events have changed the landscape and the characters.

Dracula: Love Kills

This version of the game is incomplete.

GOG doesn´t have the full version of the game. Which means, this version lacks a whole area to visit, a true ending (2 to be more precise) and several puzzles. Plus lots of extras like the chance to repeat the puzzles after the game has been beaten or repeat the videos. The ingame achievements the game has, name things related to the missing area, which means, the GOG version is heavily chopped. Which is a shame.

HITMAN - Game of The Year Edition

Torchlight

Play Titan Quest or Grim Dawn instead

I found the game repetitive (by ARPG standards) and annoying. -The maps are repetitive. There are several themes like mines, jungle and ruins, caves, etc. But there is not much difference between maps of the same theme. To the point whole maps are repeated. -Unfair difficulty. Some common enemies oneshot the character. The dark zealots being the most annoying with their high damage range attacks. When common enemies are more powerfull and dangerous than boss enemies, then it means that the game is not been properly designed and balanced. -When playing with a range type of character (archer or wizard), the HUD hides enemies when they are in that side of the screen. Making it difficult to deal with them when they see your character but you can´t see them. -The pet is useless. And this is a nonsense if we take into account that the pet is one of the things that make this game a bit different. The pet will die all the time. Doesn´t matter if you spend skillpoints in pet strenghening abilities. The pet will keep dying all the time. This is a wasted opportunity. -Secondary missions are extremely lame. To me, this game doesn´t have anything that makes it worth playing. The story is nearly nonexistent and I found the skills uninteresting or useless. I felt it was a waste of money and time. I like ARPGs. I replay them several times. But I will never come back to this game again.
