Realms of Arkania 3

Game only for masochists

This game sucks. It's really truly awful. From the bloated character creation that forces you to reroll for hours, to the awful combat system, and unbearable mazes, puzzles, and fights that will make you groan (and not in a good way)... I cannot recommend this game to anybody but the most masochistic. And yes, I played all the way to the end. I complained the entire time - my wife is tired of sick and tired of me... This game took many hours and weeks of my time. And I didn't stop playing until I won. The music was anywhere from great to nails on chalkboard, the challenge was satisfying at times, and I invested too much time to want to quit. If you do play this game, make sure that you understand how terrible it is. You might even like it! Truly an accomplishment if you can muster up the tenacity and patience like I did. I feel proud, and now I need a very very very long bubble bath :(

Queen's Wish 2: The Tormentor

Does not even start

Playing on M1 Pro laptop. The game will not start at all. First Queen's wish game worked fine. I keep getting the same message of damaged file. Nothing I've done has been able to fix the problem. I'm not happy at all with GoG.

Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition

Always was a very good game

I played this game many times in the past and can't say I ever loved it. Not after BG2. But it is a solid game with a decent story. The combat is fine. I think it gets more interesting with the expansions. There is definitely a learning curve, which is great for D&D nerds like me!

Queen's Wish: The Conqueror

Underrated SW Game

I've played about 95% of all SW games for 20 years. This one is different, which is nice - I don't think it's better or worse than the other games, although I've forgotten many over so many years! The comparative simplification in Queen's Wish is interesting because it allows you to experiment really easily and puts the focus more on the tactical combat. The fights (veteran difficulty) can be pretty nail biting at times, especially the long battles with multiple phases that you don't know about beforehand. I think the story is also good, with interesting choices to complex situations. It's just a good example of how you can do more with less in a game. I do think that the constant traveling back and forth for energy is annoying, but the scarcity breeds ingenuity. The ui can use some work. But the core game is very good. I probably won't replay it though. I look forward to the sequel!
