Distant Worlds 2

Frustrating because it had potential

From game to game it definitely has optimization problems. Even with a smaller world setup it can still stutter and hang up, even at the start. Just bad code. Game is also lifeless as diplomacy and race personas is just bare bones. Did any of the current strategy programmers ever play games like Master of Orion 2 or Alpha Centauri. ? Also why try to create a realistic looking universe if you're going to put butt ugly lines running everywhere. It's mind boggling.

Master of Magic

Faithful remake

It does adhere to the original game which is a very good thing. It looks great and so far runs fine. My main grip though is the lack of edge scrolling, to have to do additional inputs to just navigate the screen is ridiculous for today's games.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri™ Planetary Pack

Still the best after 2 decades...

Alpha Centauri is still my favorite turn based strategy of all time. It still has more personality than any other game of it's genre. I so hate seeing some reviewers that just because they couldn't get it to run giving it just 1 star. That's not a game review. It runs perfectly fine on Windows 11 Though Sid Meier's name is on it, it was a masterpiece designed by Brian Reynolds. While Firaxis's Beyond Earth tried to be a modern version in spirit, it never came close. So stop reading and go play it, the drones need you..!! :D

Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Better than Civ Beyond Earth

While for me, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri still remains the definitive sci-fi civilization type game, AOW Planterfall is a much better game than the more recent Beyond Earth. It flows very well , has good atmosphere and most of all is fun to play. I've had no tech problems so far as a few others have mentioned.

Stellaris

Lack of victory options makes it tedious

I found it was way over-rated. It's more sandbox than strategy. For a game with all it's research and science officers not to even have a viable science victory option seems shallow for me.. You explore, build ships and settle, yes fun in the beginning but soon you are totally blocked in and then it becomes repetitive and tedious. Diplomacy is extremely dull. While it is pretty to look at, to call it a great "strategy " game just doesn't ring true for me...
