The Settlers® 2: 10th Anniversary

Not actually worth it

Don't pay full price. If you have to play Settlers 2, wait for the discount. The 10th anniversary edition has 2 major problems: 1. The UI. It does not scale at high resolutions, so menus are very hard to read. All the icons have changed, but readability has not improved. And if you open one menu, the game closes another. There's no way to change that, you'll have to constantly wrestle the menus to get the info you need. 2. The 3D graphic overhaul has done nothing for the game. The terrain is confusing; making it hard to see where you can place mines, or to notice where you have stone left on the map. Personally, I find the buildings look garish and out of proportion, especially the farms. But the worst part is that goods are way too small and indistinguishable. What is bread, what is iron ore? I could not tell you. Especially wood planks got me mad, why does it look like your settlers are lugging sticks around? The sad truth is that the old, clearly colored graphics made it much easier to see what's going on and to optimize your settlement. Optimization is the heart of this game, and to muddy it up with tiny fiddly menus and odd graphics is seriously getting in the way of the fun.
