I just can't believe it. The game's here. Here, gentlemen, before you stands the best cRPG in all time. Complex plot, many twists, multiple choices; extreme replay value, great setting; just everything is great great great! I shall recommend it saying: If you like Baldur's Gate: it's nothing compared to Planescape Torment.
If you haven't tried heroes: you have to do so, like, now. And not candy, childish V nor stupid IV; II and I neither give it any credit it deserves. Heroes III The Perfect. There's one huge BUT, however. Playing Heroes III, for me, was a lot like playing Counter-Strike with bots. Tends to get repetitive and boring. !!BUT!! You have to remember one thing: this...is... TURN-BASED! so: one computer can manage up to 8 players! (And no lags) Personally, I think it's the most important game I ever played in my life. Just EVERY party we have with my pals, at some point WILL FEATURE HEROES 3. Why? BECAUSE IT'S SO DARN FUN TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS!!! oh, and if you want to play with friends, definitely DO install Heroes in the Wake of Gods mod/addon. It just adds everything that was missing. Forget football, volleyball: with Heroes there's fun like no other.
It's a very good game, played through many times. Though on the other hand, that's one of the games that should be priced 2.99 ... cause 7 dollars? Come on, it's like 2 hours of play tops.
Well, it's a good GOG buy, really I recommend it. It's a good game - addictive, sometimes challenging. Basically: bunch of pilots, one ship and lot's of shit to kill. Good: great soundtrack, nice story, cool gameplay, intuitive interface and great graphics Bad: the designs of ships are IMO a bit lacking (like in Sins of the Solar Empire, the ships aren't pretty ;( ), rpg aspect isn't really anything besides "We planned how you should put the points and you really won't put them differently anyway". Um, no voiceacting is really frickin stupid too. And the worst thing of all: DON'T EXPECT HUGE SPACE BATTLES! You're a mercenary here, and you have the work of mercenary. You aren't taking part in any bigger engagements (well mostly not, some of them are present) I don't know if you find this review useful but... i don't really know how to describe it. Watch a video on youtube. You have like 6 fighters, one cow-ship, er, i mean mothership and you try to beat other fighters :P Though if you liked Nexus: the jupiter incident, you can jump at SW right away
This game, along with UFO:Aftermath (done by same guys btw) and Fallen Haven (really good turn based game, never got much love and unreachable now:( ) is a game that kept me hooked on it for many, many years. When I first got it, I was like WOW. Let's keep it real: for today's gamer, it's not that much of original - even if it wasn't done ever since, so I don't really get it, why someone would call it unoriginal; on the day it was released in my country, it was so DAMN HOT. I replayed it FOUR TIMES in a ROW to get all the endings. I have it installed on every computer i ever play on so go figure. Graphics: you can see on screenshots, but I'll tell ya that it looks awesome in every resolution (even played on 42'' screen and it was still looking good). Everything is very detailed, vehicle designs are cool, really resembling the character of the faction, portraits of characters are cool... everything looks very good. Sound: good voice acting, great music - this type of music that you won't really notice it's playing, but you will feel that something's not right when it's not playing. Sometimes sound gets nasty when too much things are going on, but well, it's an old game. Gameplay: it's... difficult to describe this game. It's an RTS? Yes. Is it an RPG? Well, yes. it's both. RPG: Every character is unique: has own portrait and experience points. There are many story-based characters (Frank Forsyth and Denis Whateverson as comic reliefs, tho the latter seems to be lacking). Every character has 4 skills : soldier/turret-operator/soldiermk2 skill, builder skill, mechanic/driver skill, scientist/medic skill. You CAN'T build soldiers. You get them, and if you lose any, he's lost forever. RTS: base building, many vehicles later in the game, huge group of people in the last missions. Mission Objectives: every mission IS UNIQUE. Really. For example mission 9 or 11? you get eleven people to conquer three bases... but there are so many plot points sticking out of every moment, that every mission is so fu**in unique. And it sucks in like a tornado on anabolics. GET IT. NOW.
Borrowed from a friend to see this praised game. When I saw the graphics, I was like "WHAT THE HELL?!" Checked the release date: OMG 2004, really? The graphics are easily comaparable with shooters we ecnounter nowadays: like Modern Warfare, for example. Apart from great graphics: gameplay is awesome, it sucks you deeply inside and won't let go. Not to mention the whole 'open-world' thing, which is just awesome, you can pass most missions in a variety of ways. Story is good, but nothing omg awesome. Graphics 10/10, Sound 8/10, Story 8/10, Immersion 12/10, Gameplay 10/10 and I'd say that for 10 bucks... well, I can get it in Poland for 5 bucks... but without the redownloadability :| so I'll stick with GoG
