I don't usually write reviews but for RiftBreaker I've decided to make an exception. It's a unique mix of a hack'n'slash game with tower defense and economy game. You play as the eponymous RiftBreaker, Ashley, who's job is to prepare a new planet for colonization. Your job is to gather enough resources to build a Rift Gate back home. To achieve this, you'll be building mines, power plants and factories; researching technologies and specimens from around the planet.. Your base will be spread across multiple map instances (not entirely connected to home) with varying biomes and challenges in each one. The main challenge is posed by the cycles in which you don't have power (missing fuel / night (solar) / no wind (random event )); the more you build the bigger the attack of the local fauna will be; research and builds are very lengthy, forcing you to plan your expansion around that (some buildings can take up to 5 minutes to build and some technologies can take even 30 minutes to finish (real time)). I found that to be quite immersive and enjoyable to plan around. There isn't much in terms of the story, sadly. We have two characters - Ashley (PC) and Mr Riggs (the mech you're driving). Their banter is quite amusing even on a second or third hearthrough. Authors planted some backstory in the dialogues but it all really has no impact over the game; there's no big twists waiting anywhere so don't expect a compelling piece of sci fi to ensare you here. (My biggest beef with the game is that there is no "revelation" regarding why the fauna is so crazy agressive and Zergy... the design of some of the enemies is very un-animal-like and I was fully expecting there to be some sort of a twist by the end.)
I am a huge, life-long fun of the Settlers 2 games, so it was quite a struggle not to buy S3. When I finally did buy it, all that followed was dissapointment. There is actually no improvement over S2 in this game IMO. The graphics, while technologically better, are less pleasant than S2's. Roads have been abandoned for some reason, and IMO they were quite THE feature of S2's. Difficulty is a joke, you will you just build a resource base and then "BOOM!", million soldiers at your disposal. Just get S2 or anniversary edition and skip this RTS.
Enough said. It's pretty in-depth, you can pretty much control everything, from engines, through auxiliary systems. Every gun can be controlled separately (not in first person, lol), so having 6 guns can make you have 6 targets. Buy it now
Jesus was this game hyped. Everyone shouting praise for 'the best rpg ever' and such. Quick summary: what I liked: combat is an improvement over the retardedness of the first part visage is quite cool music is nice plot is probably superb (havent finished the game) What i disliked: combat is utter click-fest and I hate that dialogues are filled with bad language - unnecesarily so, as the curses are blown out of proportion game's performance is utter shit. I can handle ME3, BF3 and countless other games on high quality settings. Witcher 2 lags at medium. whole visage is dark - i don't appreciate having my eyes sucked out just to see anything side quests involving lairs didn't seem to work right in the end, the game was boring so yeah, ain't as perfect as you've told me.
