It expands on the original mechanics in most ways, making it a straightforward sequel. The leveling system and lack of village improvements might not be to everybody's taste but luckily the game is just as rich in mods as its predecessor.
This is one of the reasons why I joined GOG. An excellent addition and one of the best classical history TBS games.
