Outcast - A New Beginning

Better than it's predecessor

A fun ride, full of stunning scenery to explore and some fun action sequences. I should add; I'm only a short way through. So far, so good.

BIOMUTANT

BioAverage

This is a very attractive looking game with great visuals and a large world to explore with conflicts and discoveries to be found. However, it soon becomes repetitive and while the environments and monsters change, the battles and gameplay doesn't. The story too is lacking any real depth and inevitably, you just stop caring after a while. It isn't all bad though, there's still a lot to see and experience within the game, with a fair bit of customization for character attributes, weapons and armour etc. Overall: Not bad, just not that great either.

No Man's Sky

No Man's 'Brilliance!'

I will start by stating that I am new to the genre, (whichever classification this game comes under). I had had my eye on this game though for a couple of years given it's high anticipation and what appeared to be exemplary environments. However I didn't make the purchase until 2020, due to the overwhelmingly critical reviews it received from those whom had already made the purchase. But WOW! I'm glad I did! This game is immense! I have seen nothing like it, each planet is colossal, requiring days at the least to explore, and all are distinctly unique and incredibly beautiful in their own way. The graphics is exceptional, I imagine it might challenge some systems and give them a bumpy ride, but with my GTX1060 card, I get a largely flawless experience. I have seen some comments saying it is not multiplayer, but it most certainly is, I have already bumped into a couple of other players on a space station called the Anomaly and you can always join a friends game or invite them to your own (unfortunately I don't yet have any friends :'(. The potential for construction is astounding to me, (I never played minecraft or anything like that) but you can effectively remodel planets as you see fit and research all kinds of construction camponents and materials for buildings, exo-suits, spacecrafts and more. You can create farms with all kinds of weird and wonderful organic life matter, from plants to animals and even turn some animals into your own mounted steeds. Then there are the humanoid races to discover, with their own histories, conflicts, languages and technologies for you to learn. Anyway, I'm waffling now. I am sure all of this info is available probably in the overview above, (obviously I haven't read it). My key point is: This game will bring you potentially years of limitless fun. Whatever mistakes had been made with it in the past, the patches they released seem to have fixed them all. BUY IT! :' )

Venetica - Gold Edition

A beautiful surprise!

A wonderful little gem for the pittance it costs. I have owned this game for just a few days but already clocked up many more hours than I have spent on many of my bigger title purchases. The gameplay is fun, fluid and enthralling with customisable controls that work perfectly well, whether I use my keyboard and mouse or 360 gamepad. The visuals, while a little dated now (don't exactly stand up to the witcher 3 etc) are still beautiful. The story is pretty cliche but soon whips you into it as you follow the heroin on a furious onslaught of rampant revenge, a benevolent quest to return her dear departed from the dead or take the third option which is.... well I haven't quite worked that one out yet. Either way, there is endless exploration available, numerous hidden secrets to be uncovered, countless battles to engage in and dozens of character defining dialogues to navigate through making it well worth your money if you're into action, adventure roleplaying games. There are a few bugs/glitches i've uncovered where in dialogues characters may randomly repeat a line or two within their speech and the audio doesn't always exactly match the subtitles. The game has also crashed on me once, giving me the chance to leave it alone for a few seconds to write this review. Anyway, none of the glitches I have mentioned have really affected the pleasure I've derived from playing it, so with it being such great value for money too, it easily earns my five stars. Enjoy!

What Remains of Edith Finch

Wow!

It blew me away! This title had one of the most beautifully crafted stories I have ever witnessed, the graphics too were wonderful and just the sheer creativity of surroundings and tasks was mind-boggling. I've noticed a lot of negativity in reviews about this title, and I have to say they are not without justification, because this is not a game, at least not in the common sense. This is more like an interactive movie, a beautiful movie, almost like a dream where you feel as though you're part of the action as you have to solve riddles and complete tasks in order to progress to the next scene. When you think of it as an interactive movie, suddenly the two hours or so that it takes to complete it make sense, it's movie length. I guess like me, a lot of people don't want it to end. Someone said they wouldn't pay $5 for it, well I would pay considerably more, the experience it provides is worth every penny you'll pay. Highly recommended!
