Darksiders Warmastered Edition

Puzzlesiders

I really like this game. The fluidity of gameplay is very pleasing. The story is decent and the combat is more than acceptable. It doesn't take that long to play, however. I finished it in 28 hours but it seemed like it took an much longer to play. For me, the bosses could be really challenging but I liked it. I guess, for me, the only thing I found annoying was the constant puzzles to solve coupled with constantly looking for a way to get from point A to point B but wasn't enough to make me stop playing. I guess I didn't expect so much of it. I mean, it kind of dominates everything else. Still, I would play it again.

Two Worlds Epic Edition

Ye Gods

Well, as others have said, it ain't Oblivion. But that's ok. I just finished playing and I did like it but, in my opinion, I probably wouldn't have liked it so much if I would have paid full price for it. It's really more like a 3 1/2 star game. Okay, the world is big and there are many side quests available; I like the open-world play. I like the many different weapons and armor available. I like how you can enhance your weapons with crystals, brew stat enhancing potions and stack weapons and armor. I like that you can teleport from one place to another and you have the chance to get portable teleports. I hate the voiceovers as well as the dialogue. They are laughable at best. T'would, nay, mayhap, perchance...so corny. I'm not wild about the combat because it is, as others have said, clunky. One quest really pissed me off because you have to complete several quests just to complete the original quest. Maybe I was just tired of playing, I dunno. I don't like the lack of controller support. The story was meh and the ending was dull. Just because I believe it is a 3 1/2 star game doesn't mean it is. You may think it's a 1 star game or maybe even a 5 star game. I'm just giving you my impression of it. It is worth playing but I would wait until it goes on sale. If I had it to do over, I'd still purchase it at the sale price.

Blackguards Special Edition

It depends on the player.

I've read positive and negative reviews for BSE and thought I'd give this game a try. Because I caught it on sale, I'm glad I did purchase it. I would have felt ripped off if I had paid full price. I liked the dialog, music and the voice acting is not bad. I liked the leveling-up system. I liked the turn-based method of battle. I wasn't crazy about the story/plot. Although I liked the turn-based method of battle, I didn't like the long, tedious battles which took, what seemed like, forever to finish. I did not like that once you progress so far in the game you can't go back to previous locales. I did not like the absence of random battles. In RPGs, I'm one of those people who do not mind grinding for extra XP. Those are the things I liked and disliked about this game. I can't tell you it is a good game or a bad game because only the player (you) can decide. Some folks loved it, some hated it. For me, however, I probably will never play this game again. I just didn't like it that much. It really wasn't interesting to me and was almost a chore to complete because of the long, drawn-out battles. If you're reading reviews to help you decide whether to purchase this game, do like most folks do and wait until it is on sale. If you don't like it, you'll only be out a few bucks. If you do like it, you'll feel like you got a bargain.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition

Still Worth It

Going through it a second time now. Man, if something happened to my copy, I know it won't/can't, I'd still shell out another 50 bucks for this massive, massive game. The story, IMO, is totally immersing...it's like you're living the game, not just playing it. The graphics are still amazing to me, so clear and vivid. CDPR really made this game shine with everything they put into it. Voice acting is fantastic, the characters are unique. The Xbox One controller I have jives perfectly with this game making gameplay smooth and fluid. I don't think I can top what most everyone has said already but, playing it a second time now, I just had to comment. If you are one of the few people who love RPGs but still haven't played this game and maybe you're worried about dropping 50 bucks on a game you aren't sure you'll like, you are cheating yourself out of one of the best, if not the best, RPGs of all time. I always Google gameplay for any game I buy, this game being no different, and was almost immediately hooked after I watched the gameplay for Witcher 3. This game became an obsession for me. It's a game which will stay with you and definitely has replay value. The excitement is still there for me on this 2nd round. This is the longest game I've ever played and it is definitely the most enjoyable RPG I have ever played. Everyone who enjoys a good RPG needs to experience this journey.

Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition

Awesome!!

I played this game on a Windows 10 Pro 64bit rig with 32gb of RAM, i7 3.4ghz CPU, NVidia 970 card and a 500gb SSD drive. I used an Xbox One controller. I did not have any hang-ups with everything maxed. Gameplay was so freakin' smooth! If there were any glitches, I don't remember them. Ok, just because I loved this game doesn't mean you will, but my experience was incredible. I love the story line and the main character, Crane, was super, I mean his dialog was super. Crane said everything I wanted to say during and after certain events. The voice acting was, in my opinion, excellent. There are plenty of side quests to keep you busy and you get to free-roam. The graphics are amazing too. The controls take some getting used to but, like with anything, the more you practice, the better you will become. The best way I found to play this game as far as player experience was at night with all the lights off and headphones on. I didn't play The Following yet because I'm so exhausted (in a good way) from the base game, I needed a break. I was considering paying the regular price which was/is kind of steep but ended up getting it for half price on sale. Either way, to me, it was worth every penny. I have to say, this game really sucked me into the story. I don't know what else to say except it's the best gaming experience I've had since playing Witcher 3.

Metro 2033 Redux

5 star game with some minor annoyances

My experience with Metro 2033 Redux has been enjoyable except for the check-point system. Oh my gosh how frustrating it is to not be able to load from a certain point after the monsters freeze in mid air, restricting you from advancing even after you restart the game; glitch. I knew this game used the check-point save before I bought it, I just didn't realize how much I would hate it. Fortunately, after starting a new game and then repeating my progress, the glitch didn't happen again so I was able to advance. Being able to save the game at any given time would have been awesome and would have probably saved me having to start a new game again. The story line, to me, is really good and the graphics are amazing. Other than the mentioned glitch, gameplay was crazy smooth. I didn't run into any slowdowns with everything maxed out. I loved the music, the sound effects and how I could hear the monsters coming for me before I saw them. Using my mouse was a better option for targeting but I did okay with my Xbox One controller. The game is linear so you're just going from point to point with rest stops along the way to acquire information and buy supplies. I wasn't really crazy about having to buy filters for gas masks which become damaged after several hits, but it's not a major aggravation. Being limited to the number of weapons you can carry is more realistic than being able to carry an arsenal like you can in some games, but is somewhat annoying whenever you have to decide which ones you're going to give up for others. The reason for the 5 star rating is for the game itself. Yeah, there are some things I didn't like about the game but I feel those are personal issues. I thoroughly enjoyed Metro 2033 Redux and I do not have any purchasing regrets, especially since it was on sale when I bought it. Reviews can be helpful but watching gameplay on YouTube, in my opinion, is the best way to help determine if a game is worth purchasing.

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Two

Wow, just wow.

Six adventurers fighting 40 orcs in a 20 minute long battle...takes me back, man. Back in the day, on a 386, these games were awesome and, to me, still are. If you've never played games like this, you probably won't like them because of the slow grinds of leveling up, the time it can take to complete a single battle and maybe the awkward use of the keyboard for some of the games. GOG included the adventurer's journal, reference cards, code wheels (always hated those) and the dang clue books! Being truly DRM-free, you don't even need the code wheels. Well, you don't for Pool of Radiance. I'm assuming the others are the same. I can't comment on Hilsfar because I could never get into it. The rest have decent story lines with side quests which, to me, are still fun. So far, Pools of Radiance works on my Windows 10 rig just like it did on my first 386. I expect the remaining games will be no different. Thanks, GOG, for letting me relive some great memories. You guys do, indeed, rock.
