Darksiders III Deluxe Edition

Puzzlesiders III - Definitive Editon

As with the previous games, Darksiders III - Definitive Edition includes, IMO, great game play, excellent graphics, an interesting story/plot and several choices to make the game as relaxed or as challenging as one would like. Also, as with the previous games, the puzzles can be annoying but not terribly difficult to solve in order to advance. The combat is fluid with an Xbox One controller. If you didn't like the first two Darksiders games, you probably won't like this one either. I got it on sale for $27.00 and it was worth the price to me. For me, this game was a joy to play. One way to help you decide if you might like it, look up the game play on YouTube. Reviews and game play videos are what help me decide if I think I would like playing. Cheers.

Lords of Xulima - Deluxe Edition

Kind Of Plain

Lords of Xulima is definitely not the most complex game I've ever played. Graphics are decent, voiceovers are somewhat passable, the story was just interesting enough to make me want to finish the game but the quests were really nothing special. I mean, after playing this game I wasn't like "Man, that was a great game.", I was more like "Well, finished that one. What's next?". I don't like any game where you have to keep purchasing food for your journey. I had no problem keeping my food supply maxed out in this game, I just think it's unnecessary and adds nothing to the game. I didn't like the switches in the dungeons which open secret doors. They aren't hard to find but the dungeons are, in my opinion, riddled with them to the point it's like "Oh, another secret door." instead of "Oh man, I just found a secret door!". Even with the mediocre points, there were still aspects of this game I did like. I did like the turn-based combat like older RPGs and I did like exploring the land. I also liked not having to face a random combat encounter every five steps. I think the devs spaced random combat encounters out very well. I also liked the ending. Not a spectacular ending but had a little twist I wasn't expecting. I guess this was just a good time killer for me. I watched LoX gameplay on YouTube and it looked like a game I would really like. Since GoG had it on sale, I figured I wouldn't be out too much if I didn't like it. Well, even though I think it's kind of plain, I don't regret purchasing it for the price I paid. As with my other reviews, just because I thought it was a three star game doesn't mean you will. You may love it or you may hate it, My review is only a review, an opinion.

Quake 4

It's not too bad

Running Win 10 64-bit, i7 CPU @ 3.4GHz, 32Gb RAM and a GTX 970. I had no problems running this game other than it locking up 2 times. That's really not too bad considering the length of the game and how old it is. I mean, running on a modern system. Quake 4 is basically like its predecessors but with better graphics. The storyline, to me, isn't much. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just not a deep storyline. Your character fights aliens along a linear path while, as with most games, gaining more powerful weapons and defeating bosses as the story progresses. I gave Quake 4 a three star rating becuase it just wasn't that interesting to me. You, however, may absolutely love it. Regardless, I purchased the Quake series while on sale here at GoG and am satisfied because I didn't spend a lot of money.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition

Puzzlesiders 2

Man, I really like this game and, like the first one, I know I'll play it again. The graphics, like the first one, are smooth and easy on the eyes. The story is better than decent and gameplay is, to me, is flawless. Darksiders 2 is challenging and can be frustrating but it made me "work" harder to progress the story. I used an Xbox One controller, which performed perfectly, and experienced no technical issues. I could tell you what the game is about but you can easily read that in the GoG descripton. I'm just giving my experience with the game. It's a good game at regular price. It's a great game on sale. Watch some YouTube gameplay videos.

Quake II

Now this one is fun

I finished the first Quake earlier this week and though I did like it somewhat, it left me a little disappointed. It was like playing a dressed up version of Doom. For me, Quake 2 was more challenging and, even though the final boss fight wasn't as majestic as I had hoped, the gameplay was really fun. Playing Quake 2 didn't remind me of Doom so much. Quake 2 is similar to other shooter games, battle your way through monsters while solving puzzles. Well, not really solving puzzles, rather, finding the needed buttons to push. Still, I really liked playing Quake 2 and the credits were neato. Yeah, neato. You may like this game as much as me or you may hate it. It's really up to the person playing to decide if it's a good game or not. YouTube gameplay videos are worth watching to get an idea of a game's worth.

Quake

No Nostalgia

Never played Quake until this year. To me, Quake: The Offering is a Doom-like game which, again, to me, is fun to run through but if I ever play it again it will be just to kill some time. I remember people losing their minds over this game after its release, and I may have been one of those people had I played it, but it just didn't do it for me. Maybe because of its age, maybe because it was too much like the original Doom only with better graphics, I dunno. To complete the game, you must battle monsters, solve puzzles and collect a rune per episode, through several levels per episode. There are 4 episodes to complete. After the 4th episode, you "fight" the final monster, Shub-Niggurath. I think I spelled that correctly. Anyway, I'm not disappointed with my purchase (got it on sale). I knew what to expect because I watched gameplay on YouTube before I bought it. I still don't think it's that great of a game, though.

DOOM 3

Love this editon

I played Doom 3 back it the day (non BFG edition) and really did love playing it. I guess it's been so long since I've played that I can't really tell much difference between the original and the BFG edition. The differences I can identify are ones I like. The menu is different from what I remember but I like it. The Xbox One controller support is awesome and getting to use the flashlight while shooting, for me, is a welcomed change. I finished the game this morning and was completely satisfied with the gameplay. I actually liked playing this version better than the original. As one reviewer commented, there did seem to be more ammo drops than what I remember from the original. That's fine with me, though! There was one thing I wasn't crazy about, though. Unless I overlooked how to skip cutscenes, I didn't like not having the option to skip. This game is linear. You battle through the story, cautiously looking around corners while listening for sounds which indicate monsters could be nearby. I love it. Scary? No, but there are still some surprise elements throughout the game which will make you fire off some rounds at air. Well, for me anyway. If you have played Doom 3 before, you know what to expect. If you haven't played Doom 3 before and are looking for a decent shooter, this might hit the spot for you. I purchased a copy for $9.99 on sale and do not regret it all. The reviews for this edition are mixed but if you are considering buying this game, you have to remember these reviews are personal opinions. Is this game good because I believe it is a good game? Of course not. It is completely up to the individual who is playing to decide if a game is good or if it's a stinker. That being said, however, if there are 50 out of 50 bad reviews for a game, it probably is a bad game. I still use reviews, from time to time, to help determine if I would like to play the game but I normally do not solely judge on reviews alone. YouTube gameplay videos are what I use the most to determine if I would like to play a game. I gave this game a 4 star rating because, to me, although it is definitely worth playing more than once and is fun, I can't say it is one of my all-time favorites.

Dead Space (2008)

I like this game

Running Win 10 64, i7 CPU, 32Gb RAM and an EVGA 970. The only issue I had was with the Xbox controller. The main character, Isaac, would randomly raise his weapon, sometimes to the point I couldn't access the menu or walk. Fortunately, the solution was simple but frustrating. I had to unplug the controller and then plug it back during game pause to stop the raising of the weapon. This fix would last for 30 minutes or 5 minutes. I never did figure out what would trigger it and I don't know why it would start at random times after plugging it back in. Weird. I was able to finish the game but, man, it was annoying. I could have used the keyboard/mouse but I have never liked using the mouse/keyboard combo for action games. That being said, there is a mini game you must complete in order to continue the game. I bet I tried 8 times with the controller but still kept dying; it's an aiming thing. I swapped over to the mouse from the controller and was able to complete the mini game with no problems. I had better control with the mouse than the controller in the mini game. Hope that helps someone. The graphics, for the game's age, and voice acting were great. I like that there are three difficulty settings and the menu is easy to learn. There are elements of surprise but nothing, to me, which scared my pants off. I would classify this game as a sci-fi thriller. I did like the ending. I didn't knock off a star because of the controller issue or that it felt like I was playing Doom 3. Even though I do like this game and may play it again later on, I just didn't think it was a 5 star game. That doesn't mean it isn't, it's just my opinion of the game.
