The Whispered World: Special Edition

Shines like a diamond

It's probably one of the best modern adventures, with it's beautiful soundtrack, hand drawn environments and characters, the parallax layering is just super cool. The characters are beautifully designed and worked out, the world is filled with dialog and life. It's a great game right to the end, which connects neatly with the beginning. While our protagonist is a negative sad sack the game actually manages to be funny, and make me grin. :) If you can play it in german you should do that, i based this on the german laguage version which generally is the best in this case. It's a must play!

RollerCoaster Tycoon® Deluxe

Simply the best!

This is the best themepark and tycoon game i have ever played. It is highly accessible, while remaining challenging and fun. While it got set goals, it also enable you to get creative, not only in the design and layout of your park, but also in the design of your rides. You can customize almost all of the rides, and you are able to build your own roller coaster tracks. This game also manages to stay accessible while being detailed, and infinitely fun. This is a game you must have tried before you die, and if it's just to name a visitor after your mother in law and drowning her sims style! Yes, every visitor of you park can be named and will be a individual with it's own needs, wishes and stats. This game is a steal at any price, and for 6$ you just owe it to yourself to get it.

Creatures Village

Screen saver

I was very curious, since this seemed to be more of a game for children age 3 to 6, but the reviews usually been exceptional, i got this one because it was the first of the series. My criticism starts with the fact that there is no tutorial, or in-game help, but then there isn't to much to know or to do actually, you are supposed to teach your little guys and raise them, but that's where my criticism starts, they do everything on their own. After i hatched and named them, they gone straight out in the garden, munched apples, played some and fell asleep. I really tried to show them 1 or 2 things, which worked, but in the end it was pretty much pointless. The manual said they live about 5 hours before they die, i guess it may get more interesting as the game progresses over multiple generations, but i can't see where i am supposed to come in, and to be honest, i don't want to invest 5 hours looking at what is basically a screen saver till something interesting happens. I see some good opinions from people that knew these from when they been little, but a look in the forum reveals that others feel the same as i do - not only concerning this game, but also the others in this series. I give it a 2/5 because it really is exceptionally cute, and watching the little guys is fun for a little while, but to me it just isn't a game. If you loved it as a child - go on and get it, it may do it for you, if that's your first time as it was for me, please be aware that there isn't to much to do.

Psychonauts

Best in show

I never was sure if i should buy it, it didn't bother me for long, this was a great mistake. But when GOG had a deal on it i just had to try it. This game may appear dark and gloomy, but trust me and treat yourself to one of the best games you will ever play. It's fantastic and basically everything to everyone. It starts to repeat itself, but just when you think you seen it all, it comes up with something new. If you like godzilla - it got that, if you like a little bit of romance - it got that, if you want humor - it got tons of that too. On top of that many creative and new ideas and visuals, it's one of the very best games i ever played, and i never even was into 3D jump&run and such. I could have stopped there but i love talking about it so i go on: It's visual style is really appealing, it fits the game very well, the soundtrack is a bit one-sided, but it blends in very well and never gets really annoying, it sure is linear, but it often rewards you for acrobatics, you feel like you break the system a bit, by going a bit nuts. You can "level up" to "level" 100 if you want to, it doesn't really have role playing characteristics though, and you will improve your talents automatically by that which is still very motivating. Most new talents are introduced with a bit of a tutorial level, this may sound boring but it's huge fun. I remember when i got levitation, i don't spoil it if i say: Get out those dancing shoes and get ready for a really funky ride. Right down to every character, each of them is memorable, and i love them all. Beautiful just beautiful, i could go on forever, but just take my word for it: It's simply brilliant, and one of the games everyone should have played! This plays in a league all of it's own.

Casual Puzzels

It's simple - get on the guy's nerves till he explodes - but the puzzles can actually be mildly challenging to work out. Also a lot of fun for casual gamers that are sick and tired of all the same Tetris/Bejeweled/Whatthehelldoiknow arcade stuff. You can play it 10 minutes get a bit closer to the solution, or even solve it, and end it there. It stays fun even in such small portions, it's just hilarious. I had a lot of fun with this some years ago, thanks for having this gog!
