The actual game is good, but this version... I really think you'd be better off emulating the game, either on Dolphin or RPCS3, there are different versions with this game but this PC version is... bad to say the least. In every session I had with this I encountered issues, stuff like, clipping through the enviroment, getting stuck, without the ability to restart the last checkpoint, fps locked at 30fps (you unlock it, it breaks the game even further) in the main menu you have to use the brackets in your keyboard to navigate through certain options, there's no option to rebind this. There's a loading screen for going in and out of options, there's a launcher with only a toggle for "high detail" no more graphic settings, so you're stuck with the ones set by the developer, at least you can change the resolution but... the cloth physics are broken here, you have to edit a .ini file to get them to work, and the list goes on, and on, and on... I didn't experienced crashes, but there's tons of folk that have as you can probably read in other reviews. So, yeah... nice game, terrible PC version, such a shame how many games are like that, or were like that too...
Why is it that GOG is treated as a second class store by so many developers, they add their games, they CHARGE for their games, and then they proceed to abandon their games and their players. This game has gotten multiple significant updates on steam; the most recent added stuff like: full voice acting, tons of bug fixes, tons of freaking cutscenes to the bosses and the ending of the game, tons of QoL improvements. Yet this version is still the 1.0 one? What's going on?
The world is incredible, a game that takes place in the insect kingdom? I've always wanted that, but it's mythical in this case, so that's nice. Problem really stems from the actual gameplay and design, the map is deliberately obtuse and obscured so you keep finding a beetle that sells you map pieces and pins; I get the developers were trying to make you feel lost, but... I don't enjoy it. The combat is good, but extremely simplistic, you jump, you hit, and after getting the rhythm for it, it turns into a bit of a slog, mainly because of how repetitive it gets, some of the bosses become more of an exercise in repeating patterns, than in experimenting with the game mechanics. The story is fine, your usual Zelda like kind of thing, there's a lot of evil, you're supposed to cleanse it, the really good part is meeting the characters that the game has, that's what's nice about the tale, not the actual premise but the details in it. Overall, I think it's a fine game, just a tad bit overrated, people treat it as if it's the second coming, when in reality is just alright.
Nothing else to say, really hope that GOG adds the Arkham games to their preservation program -at least the first two (Asylum and City) deserved it- their phenomenal games, and this one has incredible pacing, graphics, gameplay, replayability, atmosphere, secrets, side content; it's exceptionally made. About the only two complaints I have is that 1, you don't get to change the language of the voices separately from the text and subtitle language. And two, you don't get to replay the game through NG+ endlessly, Rocksteady basically treated that mode as an added difficulty setting and a one and done kind of thing -easily one of the worst ways of handling NG+- which is build around entirely in replayability and going back through the game. Still an amazing title though, perhaps the best of the franchise.
WTF is going on?!?!? So you remaster the game but don't bother to add rebindable keys? Is it lazyness, is it negligence, what is it? Why is rebindable keys such a big freaking deal nowadays? Like the same problem with Crow County, absurd, absolutely absurd, and people flocking around with their five star reviews for a remaster that lacks such a simple feature, ridiculous.
