miss this at your own peril it's not a perfect game but what little nitpicks there are do not degrade over time - it is an excellent adventure of style and grace, with hours worth of worldbuilding to explore. or you could rush through it and hate it but then you'd be missing the point on purpose.
Absolutely wonderful! But since I can't tell you anything that any other reviewer hasn't said already, I'm just going to tell you to get this GOG version (with the patches included in the download) because the base game is unfortunately broken - this GOG version is no fuss terrific. Just install it and you're ready to kick ass. Or suck blood. Or talk to stop signs. Don't worry about it.
It's very pleasant, but even if you 100% it you only have under three hours of content. I was looking in the wrong place for one of the birds because 'farmland' apparently also include the orange farm on the other side of the map, and I spent an hour looking for the last spot of trash to clean up. But all in all an excellent experience. Sadly, not perfect. on the last day of the story and the epilogue day to finish up the sidequests i noticed that there's people sitting through each ohter and clipping through scenery and walls, and if you go onto the balcony of Alba's grandparents' house and tilt the camera up you'll get freaky visual glitches, but aside from that it's very nice.
TLDR: if you haven't played the original life is strange, give this game a pass. if you have played the original life is strange and you freaking loved it, don't bother reading this review, just buy the game. for everyone else, here's what I think: the first life is strange is a pretty great game. certainly not perfect. it's a little flat at times, and uneven moving from one segment to another. it's a 4 out of 5 game rounded up. this game is an addendum. it does NOT stand well on its own. the quality of writing is inferior compared to life is strange. if you haven't played the original a lot of this stuff won't make sense. the music is of the same quality. no remarks. pacing is uneven, even compared to original. at times it really takes you out of it. no spoilers though. graphics are of similar quality. no remarks. the ending is much less interesting than the endings of LIS - but they really couldn't change anything since this is a prequel. i'd give this game a 3/10 but it's out of five so ... i'll round up to 2/5 BUT! if you were REALLY into everything the original game had to offer, you're going to enjoy this quite a bit. you may even love it as much as the original. i appreciate that they made a call to focus on the fanbase of the original to give them more of what they want. consider this twin peaks fire walk with me the TV movie (also a prequel) to LIS's Twin Peaks the original series. which fits because the TV movie totally leans into the weird stuff where in the originals the weird stuff was auxiliary to the story. sadly, no david bowie cameo in this.
Bit hard to pick up but once you do it's real good.
the best version around, but the controls are indicative of a bygone age they're still perfectly serviceable even without rebinding set your view distance to maximum and your resolution to 1080p and you're good to go! telling you anything is technically a spoiler, best to just let the game happen to you, but it's got a stellar soundtrack and a cameo by david bowie himself, and this game is so unlike your expectations can prepare you for. it's a hidden gem, an instant classic, and the fact that you can just buy it in 2021 and it just runs boggles the mind.
Love this title so much when i got it on vita i bought it again on ps4 when it dropped there. then on steam. now on GOG. it's a fun romp and i hope to see the remake of the original game drop on GOG as well, Akiba's Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed
at time of writing the game is loaded with bugs. i don't agree with failing a game that's still being worked on so i'm gonna give it the fair review it deserves worth 60 bucks? yes. even riddled with glitches and bugs it's still engrossing and breathtaking (reference not intended). it's like they took neo tokyo straight out of akira and placed it on the west coast of america and made everyone breed with robots. it's great, don't let the haters who overestimated the hype let you get it twisted. tons to do, with more to come in upcoming DLC packs. i'm looking forward to it - but i'm not expecting this game to cure cancer in children and find me a wife. it's a great game. strong competition for my game of 2020. like the greats, like oblivion and so on, you probably won't ever see everything this game has to offer. things you'll do and see will differ from what your friend might do and see. and that's okay. we all walk away from this with different stories to tell. and if people really tick me off, i got a grenade launcher built into my left arm and a gun that bounces projectiles around corners. i'll take my chances in night city.
it's excellent and outstanding in every way that matters. not perfect, but as close to perfect as you can reasonably be.
