Legend of Grimrock 2

Better than Grimrock 1

The original Legend of Grimrock was a nice oldschool dungeon crawler with difficult fights, clever traps and secrets. I completed the original game for 100% achievements, even did some user generated dungeons. It's a fun indie rpg, focused on combat, puzzles and exploration. Story part is minimal, mostly through journals, letters and scrolls or books. This sequel is no different than the first one, just with more features like swimming. Crafting is only for some strong late game weapons, but potion brewing from the herbs you found also a thing. There are no shops here, you have to fight with what you find or earn. I prefer this over randomized useless loot. Also there's a midgame place where you can store your items for later use. I read a lot of players were complaining about the difficulty of some puzzles. They should've played like this: you can solve it in 5-10 minutes or less? Cool, go for it. Can't figure it out after 30+ minutes? Search for the solution (this is what I did). The progression and fights are still fun if you can't solve every puzzle yourself. Well worth the time investment. And even with a strong team the lategame fights and the end boss are a challenge. Overall a very enjoyable experience if you like these kind of games. I wish for a 3rd game. Would buy it day 1.

Darkest Dungeon®

Hard and punishing rogue-like with style

One of the better premium indie rogue-like dungeon crawlers came out in the past decade. The animation, art style is great, the UI is polished and the encounters are hard until you learn how to overcome specific enemies. Some are resistant or use devestating attacks. Optional mini-bosses and 3 tiered main bosses specific for each region are waiting your party. You have to manage your heroes, and town with limited starting resources. But in the end you can upgrade everything and have a steady income of gold and trinkets. Sometimes it's unforgiving with big rng swings. Bad dice rolls can take out even the well equiped party. But the difficulty is one of the key parts of this game. You fail, you learn, prepare, fail again, until you succeed. Never forget when I discovered how to defeat a certain boss on my own. No wiki, just trial and error and the victory felt great. Need to have patience for this game. It's well wort the time.

Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

Still one of the best CRPGS

An instant classic from the golden age of Bioware. Party based CRPG at its best. The story is not as good as Planescape Torment and there's not as many combat encounters like Icewind Dale. It's the best of both worlds. Lots of possible party members to recruit and a few big decisions to make. High level D&D battles, especially with the expansion. Worth multiple runs since different builds change the game a lot. This Enchanced Edition is mostly good for running the game on modern systems (just tested on a fresh Windows 11 PC). The old originals are still great with mods. Still, worth every $ on a sale.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077

PC port is much better after FSR 3.1 for me.

Cyberpunk 2077

It's good now, ever since 2023

We all know how the original 2020 release was rough for PC, and a complete disaster for PS4 and Xbox One. Crashes, freezes, bugs everywhere. But that was in the past, CDPR made a lot of fixes (and spent a lot of extra money to make sure it's getting better). They're fixing it with patches and giving us FREE content with every new version. Most other publishers would charge for and extra skin or cars or minor quests, here you just pay for the base game or the expansion. Ever since around late 2021, it changed a lot. The 2023 expansion Phantom Liberty made it what it is today. Tons of patches, improvements from CDPR made this game a much better product. Now I think it's worth it, even at full price. I got it ever since 2020 and managed to complete it twice with a 3rd run on the way for every life path. The game is an open world fps looter-shooter first (with a great story) and rpg second. Some decisions only matter late game and the worl is not as reactive as the 2018 trailer suggested. Still, the game is fun. Great music, graphics and lots of character builds to chose from. You can also mod it with tons of cool stuff. The game would be great with Witcher 3 level modding tools/Redkit for Cyberpunk. Maybe they'll add it here as well. I find myself return to this game just to roam around Night City. Every quest done, it's just for fun. Some of the radio stations are not my style, but overall 80% of the music the game has is enjoyable for me. So overall I recommend this game a lot!
