Hardspace: Shipbreaker

Very good but not without some quirks

Played: Version 1.3.0.330144 (7 months old - latest version at the time of writing) PC used: R5 5600x / RTX 3060 (12gb) / Win 10 Pro 10.0.19045 I've put 50h (reached lvl22 into the career, TLDR I really enjoyed the teardown gameplay when it plays fair BUT there are a few issues that really put me off at times (see below for details). Story is decent and finding logs in ships was neat, but no skip button for long cutscenes can make it a bore. No crashes and it was easy to run at max settings with my specs. Time trial for tearing down ships was fun, No achievements unless you enable "Data Collection". I just WISH there was more to do/unlock past lvl 20. Bigger ships with more systems to tear down like weapons or oxygen systems or waste systems, AI mechanical creatures that attack you, suit customization and paint customization, all of that would have been really nice to see in the last third of the career to keep it fresh. 8/10 The main objective is to cut/move parts from ships and put them into sorting zones to earn money. Easy enough however theres times where you lose money for no reason when you shouldn't have. I cut a long metal rod at the tip, I cut a thin piece out in the open and it cuts something behind it which sometimes is explosive, I lose money. Theres also smaller parts that are sometimes for one zone or another, but they look the same so you have to meticulously check each beam to make sure its meant for the refinery (or not) or you lose money. All these issues especially the cutter issues made it pretty unfair at times and you lose quite a bit of money. My other complaint is the achievements, not sure if its the same on steam but on here you wont get achievements unless you turn on the "Data Collection" setting in game.. huh?! I dont recall it ever saying what it tracks, not even in the settings so I disabled it, it is needed to collect leaderboard times which I understand, but I want to confirm the data thats being taken before accepting.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

Jets, Grinding, Radio - Check!

Played: Version 1.020385 (8 months old) (4 available versions spanning 1 year at the time of writting this) PC used: R5 5600x / RTX 3060 (12gb) / Win 10 Pro 10.0.19045 Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an absolute gem of a game. Based on the Jet Set Radio games its got a lot of their charm and ideas but it adds its own twist to them. Quick rundown you compete with rival groups with graffiti, tricks and challenges to move towards your main goal. It's different to the Jet Set games and some may not like the changes, personally I like it but some things for sure needed refinement. Story is pretty dang good, some fun twists and it makes me want to see a sequel that expands on its ideas and settings/characters. The music is damn near perfection, I couldn't help but match my tricks to the beat of each song (PLEASE release an Official Soundtrack on GOG!). Performance wise I got a stable 144hz at 1440p max graphics, easy to run, recognizes my dualsense and xbox controller with no issues, only two visual bugs, no crashes. Lastly the mods for this game are fantastic and worth looking into! Negatives: No achievements, no pruchasable Soundtrack, also strangely enough no sales till this one, wish this had the same offerings as the Steam version. Personal negative, I feel the late game is kinda same-same as the start. New locations and new rail designs are fantastic but it could do with some gameplay/customization unlocks that could spice up how we play or face challenges/enemies. For instance combat could've been far more fun to engage in if we had more ways to fight along the way, a custom graffiti maker for each size to add our own charm in the game, heck even a custom color selector for clothing and gear would have been a very welcomed addition later on in the game (maybe even a custom character maker once the story is done). Hopefully we improvements like that in a sequel :) Solid 8.5/10 P.S. - Make sure to read the phone messages you get, they give great tips.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

10 years later still fun to play!

Version played: 1.0.0.2 & 1.0.0.2 hotfix (both 4 years old at the time of writting this) PC Used: R5 5600x / GTX 1070 / Win 10 Pro - Build 19045 I played very little of Wolfenstein 3D back then so I never got invested in the series, New Order was the second wolfenstein game I ever played and compared to W3D it was obviously a huge step up. It has quite the wild story with great gunplay and enemies to go along with it, and lets not forget the amazing OST and voice acting! Coming back to it all these years and I still enjoy what it has to offer, though I now find the plot a little rushed at times and/or poorly written in some areas. The GOG version is very solid aside from one issue. For some reason the newest "hotfix" version buggered up the GOG Galaxy achievements so you dont earn them unless you play the non hotfix version, no loss if you play the first version so thats an easy fix (make sure you dont create a save on the new version otherwise you'll have to delete it for achievements to work even if you download the older version after). There is one issue that cant be fixed which even affects the steam version, the game engines texture loading weirdness where you see items/textures load in on the sides of your screen when turning. Overall it's a great game that is challenging but rewarding when you catch on to what weapons are efficient against whatever enemies you see. 8.5/10

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

Very fun! Wish there was more to it.

Version Played: 1.0 (4 years old - Latest Version at the time of writting this) PC Used: R5 5600x / GTX 1070 / Win 10 Build 19045 Wolfenstein TOB is a really fun game and I enjoyed my time with it (10 hours). The hidden secrets were fun and the story was very intriguing but I wish they add more to the end as it felt oddly rushed (I'll explain in the spoiler section), maybe less time spent in the castle would have been better but thats just my opinion. I played on low/medium settings, no crashes, just a visual oddity where textures pop in a little too late when you turn towards them or go around a corner, and an audio bug where a specific enemies sound would still play after you kill them. Music was fantastic too, Definitely get this once you finish The New Order. 7/10 Spoilers ahead: I finished New Order years ago, dabbled in New Colossus afterwards but dropped it because I lost interest with the odd dialogue. Old Blood feels in-between the two where its fun to play and the story is interesting, but I feel NC's bad writting started to seep into this game a bit. Thankfully its only one weird dialogue moment with annette, like she says "why do they hate us so much" after seeing zombies.. like thats your question? Plot wise I dont get why the leaking gas didnt infect everyone, why normal enemies turned into monsters randomly, heck they dont explain if we need to stop the gas (or if its sealed) or how we got rescued (we had to climb through lots of small spaces). I wish the gate to the boss room was actually the entrance to the kings laboratory, I wish we could explore its large underground chambers to find weapons they used to burn the city etc (and use them to clear old zombies that the king trapped there). I wish we could have faced larger waves of zombies rather than the handfull that comes at us at a time, and I wish we could have faced something that felt like an actual threat and not a chained bullet sponge for a boss. A shame really.

Metro 2033 Redux

For the most part very good!

Played: Version 1.03 (4 years old - latest version at the time of writting) PC used: R5 5600x / GTX 1070 / Win 10 Pro 10.0.19045 For years I tried playing this game but every time I tried it never clicked with me, I just couldn't get past the sort of rough start to the game. Some voice lines sounding odd and yet comical, the UI had some oddities I couldnt figure out, and the movement/gunplay felt weird (somewhat close to Rainbow 6 Siege which I dont like its gameplay). This time I pushed through those first few levels and I'm glad I did, it definitely gets better after them. It took a longer time to get used to the UI and quirky gunplay/movement but I did eventually.. for the most part, glad I did as the level designs in this game looks fantastic and gets better as the game goes on. Story wise it's pretty decent (ramps up in the later half of the game) but when you read the diary notes that's where it gets deeper into your characters thoughts, and that's where the message the of the game comes to life. Glad I could download the manual because I needed it for figuring out some elements like my watch and what it's parts indicate. No Audio issues, one crash late in the game, and quite a few textures seemed to flicker with other textures they lay on. Overall really solid game for the most part. Side note leave SSAA off or at the most at 0.5 as it dropped my framerate hard when I used anything higher than 0.5. All other settings I could max. 8/10

Ion Fury: Aftershock

More Ion Fury, what's not to love!

Yet again the mad lads pushed the limits of the build engine in a DLC thats longer than some full campaigns out today. The new easter eggs and abilities and weapons and the new hoverbike are brilliant additions. the map design yet again feels so unique and avoids feeling repetative. The new enemies were fun to engage especially when they were first introduced as I wasnt expecting them at all, but man I wish the enemy variants were more lethal in the higher difficulties (with more weapon quirks to feel wildly different from the stock weapons), heck the new drone didn't drop any mines for some reason so it was literally acting like the normal drone. Hope that gets fixed, as well as the random spots on the road that caused damage to me when I was on my hoverbike, but regardless of that Aftershock was tons of fun and well worth the cost. Side note: On my win 11 laptop the game doesnt display the game if you play full screen at a resolution lower than the max available, choose a lower resolution in windowed mode only, Win 10 didnt give me this issue. Also this game has GOG overlay but doesnt say it does, also no GOG achievments which is odd since Steam has them. 8.8/10

Ion Fury

Build't to entertain, fast and fun

Played: Stock Version 1.02 (4 years old) & 3.0.0.9 (2 months old, latest version) (5 available versions spanning 4 years at time of writting) Ion Fury is a very fun and fast paced game, the plot is simple but the run-and-gun gameplay will still put a big smile on your face. The base game offers a lot of variety in map design and easter eggs and enemies, with lots of weapons to counter them. The only negatives I can think of is the lack of wacky/unique weapons, or the late game enemies that I wish had more unique attacks, Ohh and the removal of the software render option from the pre-game settings box. I love Ion Fury and instantly jumped on the physical when it was available, the work done to the build engine was amazing to see and the gameplay really fixed an itch that I missed, well worth the money. I was absolutely ecstatic when I saw the announcement for the DLC called - Aftershock: Yet again the mad lads pushed the limits of the build engine in a DLC thats longer than some full campaigns out today. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director’s Cut

Great game, wish I had non DCut version

Played: Stock Version 2.0 (4 years old, only version available for this game at time of writting) I love Deus Ex HR to bits but it's a damn shame we can only buy the directors cut, I miss the yellow tint and although I didnt mind the DLC its uneccessary filler we could have done without. sadly I did suffer the problems some reviewers had like stuttering and the long wait time for the game to exit to desktop (no crash/freeze when hacking doors/computers, no save issues either thankfully). My PC has an R5 5600x and a GTX 1070, the fix for the stuttering on my PC was to go into the NVIDIA control panel (specifically the "Manage 3D settings) and select DE:HR specifically and set the Vsync to 'Fast'. Before I applied that change I noticed the FPS counter would spikes above 60fps to 75-80+. After changing the vsync to 'Fast' the highest spike I saw is 63 and its barely noticeable. I didnt have to change any graphics settings but others may need to change it to make it work. I do recommend staying at a lower resolution (720p-1080p) to keep the UI large if you aren't willing to download the fixes. Id still recommend the suggestions of other reviews on how to remove the telemetry among other changes, sadly seeing how there are no updates after the initial (and only available) 2.0 version I doubt we will see these issues officially fixed. What a shame to leave a great game in this state but it can still be enjoyed. 7.5/10
