I loved this game. I liked that it could get me genuinely feeling anxious. Expect tons of action, super awesome-gory violence (it is zombies after all), great story, great acting, great exploration, great combat, great graphics... Wow. I guess I really liked this game. If you enjoy zombie movies and Call of Duty/Skyrim style combat, very, very worth it.
I liked this game, even though I'm not a big fan of my characters running around on a big picture of a world. It follows Dungeons and Dragons' rules to the hilt. The voice acting and characters are great. The storyline is enjoyable. The graphics are better than the original Baldur's Gate, and a far upgrade from games like 'Planescape: Torment'. While I wouldn't want to pay full price for the older Dungeons and Dragons games, catch me on the right day, and I would feel it was worth $20.00.
If you liked games like Baldur's Gate, then this is right up your alley. The graphics are old and outdated, but if you enjoy the universe of Dungeons and Dragons, this is all but perfect. Grim, but perfect. Personally, not a big fan of games where the whole background is just a picture and my lil' characters get to run around on it, but again, if you liked Baldur's Gate or IceWind Dale, you probably want this. I wouldn't buy it again (and in fact, thought I was buying a different game when first I bought it), but I don't regret my purchase. It's just not for me.
Gameplay = 9.5/10 Graphics = 9/10 Combat animation = 10/10 Storyline = 10/10 Intelligent game = 10/10 Need to express political views = 1/10. Soils the whole experience. I loved - LOVED - this game. The game play changed the landscape of video gaming forever. Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War could both be qualified as Assassin's Creed knock-offs. This game made the entire industry better. It set the bar. The problem is, I really don't need the political commentary. That isn't to say I agree or disagree with their views, only that I don't play video games to get preached at. Thank you, but no. On the one hand, I deeply enjoy that there's a game out there where the main character is from the Middle-East. Way to overcome prejudice! I'm proud of you! But the unadulterated prejudice against a particular religion is yucky. In fact, The Creed itself is a sermon. "There is no truth. Everything is permissible." Really? There is no truth? May I ask, is THAT true? Cause if it is, then... Bah. If you're conservative, spare yourself. If you're liberal, you're probably going to love this game. That said, I wish they'd keep their politics to themselves.
Gun was a great game in its day. They spared no expense of the voice actors. Kris Kristofferson, Tom Skerritt, Ron Perlman. Absolutely top notch. The sniping part of the game can be difficult to master, but once you've got it figured out, it's pretty fun. The game is definitely challenging, but that's partially because of how difficult the controls can be. The storyline is very well done. It definitely lives up to the quality of the actors they hired. With all that said, if you're not into nostalgia, this game is from 2005 - the same year A.I. was first invented. It's old, and it feels old. In its day it was great. This is now a different day.
Masterpiece Edition? Really? This is just the old Myst game with new, not well optimized, graphics. Seriously, that's what you're going to get - an old old game with updated graphics. I feel misled. Not worth $17.00. Maybe worth $10.00. Ok, now that's out of the way. The storyline is genius, unique, and intricate. It puts parallel-world gaming on a whole new level. Or, um, a whole old level, but still - well done! The acting is a tad impotent, and their attempt at mixing real-life video with CGI makes for some jarring and unpleasant segways, but the puzzles. My oh my, the wonderful, wonderful puzzles! If you're a thinker, a mystery solver, this game is for you.
So, while this game is not an epic strategy game, it's also priced right where it belongs. And that's not a bad thing. I got frustrated with not being able to see behind some stuff, because you can't rotate the camera very far in either direction, but its still fun as heck to start with nothing, chop down trees and mine ore, build a village and a militia, and then go take over an island. Each level is more difficult than the last, and there's always something new about each level that you have to overcome. While I don't know that I'd call it an intelligent game, its not just a repeat of what I've played before. And, let's be honest, for $7.00, you could do way worse. The game makers know they didn't build an epic game, just a fun little strategy game that's well worth your time for such a bottom-dollar price. If you liked games like StarCraft, Valhalla Hills is right up your alley.
I liked playing this game. It's still a little bit cookie-cutter open world RPG, but that's sort of like saying "This hundred dollar bill is almost exactly like the one in my other hand!" Cartoony, but in a good way. The relationships with different species, and the interaction between them is quite clever and fun. Befriend this group, and another group will lose respect for you, maybe start attacking you on sight. Combat is challenging. I like that. I died alot. lol The storyline is good, the writing not bad, and the game play worth playing. It's got some issues, like, it feels almost as if they didn't quite finish making it, not because it's glitchy, but because the graphics are a bit better than mediocre. At the end of the day, I liked it, and for being half the cost of Skyrim or its ilk, definitely worth the buy.
So - I say 'Buy it on sale,' but what I really mean is, I've uninstalled it and don't intend on ever playing it again. Graphics = 8/10. For it's day, they did quite well. Audio = 2/10. The only reason I don't rate this as a 1 is that I want to reserve such a review for something even more bad. I'm not sure such a game exists, though. At least, not a published one. I've played other games where I rolled my eyes at terrible dialogue, or ridiculous NPCs, but the audio on this game was so bad that I simply couldn't keep playing it. If you're deaf as a stone, however, you might really enjoy this. The concept isn't bad (if horribly unrealistic, even for a fantasy game), and the combat is enjoyable.
