Sim City, but better

A great sim experience. Expect slow progress. This is a marathon game, not a sprint. The mechanics are intricate but it starts off slowly enough that the learning curve isn't anxious. The philosophy added to the game is an interesting and entertaining side perk. Note: Even at maximum speed, things develop slowly. Reminds me of a massive ant farm.

ELEX

Took awhile to get into it

It took awhile for me to get into this game. The writing is decent, no complaints about the quests, but the actual voice acting of your character leaves something to be desired. FYI - you can't have your weapon out and find stuff at the same time. You gotta sheathe it to harvest stuff. They didn't tell me that part. Figuring that out helped. Wouldn't pay full price for it, but the graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay is decent.

Zombasite

Learning Curve Game

The game has an intuitive UI, which is nice. There is complexity to it's armor and weapon management. The graphics are decent (especially when scrolled out), the combat can be challenging, and the selection of classes and skills is impressive. From a technical standpoint, there is brilliance here. Clan interactions, randomly generated quests to the max, a game with dynamic play. The tutorial is just a bunch of 'help' text pop-ups - which is helpful, but it's still a little confusing. The purity of the randomness of quests breaks immersion. No cut scenes, no voice acting. In-depth mechanics with some isometric graphics. It may take some time to get into the game, because its true depth isn't visible at first glance. It must be experienced, and that will be some hours into the game. I like it - a lot - but its definitely something that gains on you. Don't expect to be drawn in during the first 20 minutes of play.

Expeditions: Viking

Well written - lacks polish

The RPG aspects of the game are great (character interactions, choices to be made, consequences for choices). The combat is tactically in-depth. The graphics, including animations, are mediocre, but acceptable. The one weakness is that the cursor (the pointy arrow thing) literally sits on top of text, and there is no work-around that I've found. They should have caught that before release. You can figure out 95% of what the text is saying, but it's still a pain, and something that should have been easy to catch, and easy to fix on the developer's end. If you like turn-based strategy with a good story and well-written characters, buy this game. But maybe wait for it to go on sale?

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Hard, but easy. Easy, but hard.

The controls are pretty straight forward, the tutorial text is very clear. Combat is not-complex, and yet challenging. The graphics are out of this world. This is a good game. Buy it!

Hardspace: Shipbreaker

Played it straight through til I beat it

I own over 500 games on GOG, and yet this one captivated me. While it can be repetitive, it's also very cathartic. I was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtfulness I had to put into dismantling the ships. Loved it, and I beat it on 'Standard' just before I'd about had enough of it. So - well time storyline, worthwhile game play, intuitive controls, a decent story line and quality voice acting made for a pleasant experience. Definitely worth the buy.

King of Seas

Forced to play a bad guy

So, the game flow was decent, the controls were intuitive (use a controller), but the game forces you into attacking innocent merchant ships that are on your side in order to continue the campaign. Perhaps I am alone in voicing my thoughts here, but someone has to stand up for fighting only for what is good and right. I do not recommend this game.

Genesis Alpha One Deluxe Edition

A good idie game - SMART

Ok - so the tutorial was a bit clunky. There was definitely a learning curve - but I sorta enjoyed that. (To the publisher, you might make the tutorial a bit more user friendly). HOWEVER, if you like using your brain, thinking things through, figuring things out, this game is awesome. The UI is very immersive. In fact, you'll find it hard to find a game more immersive in functionality than this little gem. Think Sim City meets Dead Space. You have to build your ship, craft your ship, search out components, fight aliens. It's like an all-in-one space-fighter-crafter-open_world_exploration bonanza. The graphics are good, the immersion is tangible, you have to have a head on your shoulders to think design through (like Sim City). The crafting is intelligent and complex, and the pure immersion, REAL immersion, is nice. Totally worth the buy. May I recommend that you check your map often. You'll be grateful you did. This is a good game.

Planet Nomads

Sooo Glitchy

Well - wish I hadn't bought this. The IDEA behind the game is epic, basically MineCraft, but realistic and in space. The actual game development though...holy cow what a bomb. It's not ready for release. Why is GOG selling this stuff? This is literally the second game I've bought that's so glitchy and poorly put together that it's not even really playable. It is quite obvious that English is also a second language of the creators, because their grammar is awful and breaks the ability to submerge into the game. The controls are awkward, confusing and slow to respond. The objectives layout is complicated and confusing. Save your money - and ask GOG not to sell stuff like this. It's like buying a toy you THINK is ready for market, but then discover it's a pre-prototype, not even meant to be on the shelves. I'm asking for a refund. Save your money. (When the game developers FINISH the game, it could be awesome. Great idea, but lazily executed. Worthless as is.)

Kingdom's Life

Don't Buy This

This game is not ready to play. I'm not sure why GOG allows games like this to sully their name. There's no tutorial, no rules to be found online. It looks like it might be intelligent, but it also appears relatively complex. There are typos in the game - and not just misspelled words, but stuff that any 6th grader could catch during a basic proofread. It's glitchy too. A character tells you he's going to help guide you, which I assume is supposed to be in reference to a tutorial, but then...that's it. It's not worth $.59 cents, much less $7.00. A total waste of money. I'm asking for a refund - and I bought it on sale. Run while you can!
