Nothing this game does FEELS good. Combat doesn't FEEL good. Cutscenes seem phoned-in. Boss fights seem phoned in. The worst is, I keep getting tempted to try again and end up disappointed a short while later. Note to self: uninstall and never try again.
I game this mediocre should not try to be Dark Souls. If you want to make a "difficult" game, your game balance, mechanics, atmosphere and lore have to be close to perfect. Not just B-grade "good-enough". If they made it easier to get through casually I'd probably still be playing. But if they expect me to learn a "difficult" game, I'd rather just play more Dark Souls 3.
Seems to be a very a solid entry in the old-school shooter genre. It might even be the best in that class, but as someone pointed out: Half-Life happened, making this type of gaming experience a little long in the tooth; at least for me. But hey, it was fun for a few hours, and totally worth it!
Outstanding graphics and concept. 10/10 for that. Gameplay... not so much. My initial reaction of "wow!" tapered down steadily due to the gameplay. Gameplay swings between boring, confusing or frustrating, but rarely fun or satisfying. Or was it meant to be "scary"?...yeah, no. It's nothing close to scary. Voice acting was top-notch too (I saw some complaints about this in reviews... I think those reviewers must be smoking their Jarngreipr.) I think the devs did an amazing job, I hope they make enough money to fund a follow-up that takes the graphics and concept and builds a fun gameplay loop on top of that. PS - huge shoutout to the developers for putting this on GOG. I'd not have bought it otherwise. PPS - I'm fresh off a System Shock 2 "Impossible" difficulty re-run; so I really wanted to love this game!
