I owned this game on the playstation 3. I got it for my birthday, when I was around 37 and I managed to finish it in one day. David Cage games are sometimes interesting, but often predictable. I've played and owned Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, Beyond & Detroit: become human. Coming off of Heavy Rain, one of the most depressing games ever made and with terrible French actors, who are trying to pass off English accents: Beyond Two Souls is a big step up..As with Indigo Prophecy--I found myself wondering, where David Cage gets his information. Anyway, There were aspects of the game that I did like; like the "stealth" segments. Howecer, the game falls flat here, the stealth segments are too short and they are effectively another version of Simon Says--as in; hit the prompts when you're told to. You can't actually die in this game either. David Cage, gives me the impression that he's not sure if he wants to make movies or games. At the end of the day: a game is a game and if it doesn't play well; it'll suffer for it. Like I said: where does David Cage get his information? The story involves MK Ultra type stuff and Governments discover other dimensions, which the plan to invade and conquer and I was sitting there, rolling my eyes and I thought: and people wonder why we've not happen open contact yet. It's a well acted story, though convoluted and disjointed. If you're going to get it--$11 now would be the time.
As soon as I saw this game, I bought it right away--it's a rare find and as far as I know, you cannot legally obtain it anywhere else. I had years ago on the psx and again on the pc. However, this does not run well on modern pc's--I found a fix. 3 minutes after I started the game, I noticed a problem and this was persistent. whoever optimized this, did not do a good job. I tried several times to fix it; before asking for a refund. The problems are: The FMV's do not show up..the setting should be openGL, which by default, it is not. The next problem I had; was that the game was acting like my keyboard was a controller and the axis was stuck. third problem: was that the attack button, was pressed down and the animation would just loop. the fourth problem: you go into the settings for controls and the game seizes up. I had this same issue with the pc version on windows 10--here's the fix: https://verokster.blogspot.com/2018/05/legacy-of-kain-blood-omen-gl-wrapper.html Download this patch and it will fix EVERYTHING. It's a huge patch, it's like 2 gigs; but it optimizes it for modern machines, if it asks for the CD: just copy the files in the package, to the game directory, delete the install launcher and it'll run just fine. Enjoy!
Being a fan of old graphical adventure games, choose your own adventure books and classic horror in general: this seemed like a good bet. However, I had a few problems: the design, the reading of some of the text and the aspect ratio. I found the interface to be confusing at first, not quite understanding how to navigate the combat. Options to change the font would be a nice addition and I tried to make this full screen; but like; have the screen went missing. I may buy it again, when it's a little more developed. I couldn't get into it though
I'm not surprised to see this on sale, so early. I'd purchased this game last year, fairly early after the release. This was on the ps4. The games presentation is good; but the game play is redundant and frankly: I found the story to be rather drab and boring. I do like the aspect of making medicines and treating the sick; but I had reached a point where, I'd treated all the patients I could and the all fell victim to illness anyway--very frustrating. The combat system is good; but it is more akin to Bloodborne in the sense that it is more about counter-attacks. The designers implemented a good mechanic in terms of the combat though: you can, if you so wish, face an enemy that is about 4 levels above you; but chances are: it'll finish you off in one hit. I also liked the Mesmer aspect of the game and also the medical information for each NPC you encounter. A good game, about a 6 out of 10 I'd say: but it wasn't worth the $70 I paid for it initially.
