Cat Quest III

Fun!

The game is a pretty basic aRPG but it's very fun for what it is. Enjoyed experimenting with different builds. Ended up with a shield build that ramps up fire damage and felt like a demigod. Exploration is wonderful and the art style is very colourful. Lots and lots of cat puns!

DOOM (2016)

Always preferred this one over Eternal

Regarding this copy it's been stripped of any online elements so there's no multiplayer or community maps although you can still use SnapMap to create and play your maps. Otherwise this is my favourite DOOM. DOOM Eternal was too fast paced for me and had way too much platforming for my taste. This one lets you breathe a little bit more, take your time exploring.

Baldur's Gate 3

Potentially a masterpiece but still feels buggy

I don't know if these are issues exclusive to the GOG version but throughout the 10+ hours I played this game it came off as a buggy release. Some more major bugs that I noticed: 1. Enemies sometimes just wait during their turn, doing nothing until the turn timer runs out for some reason. This has happened during multiple fights. 2. Companions' approval won't rise until you remove them from the party and put them back in (I observed this with Karlach) 3. Some dialogue options don't appear properly - they just appear as "Continue" and nothing else, however, based on the npcs' responses, there should have been something else there. Otherwise I do feel like there is a masterpiece under all this dust but I think it's wiser to wait for a while until the bugs get fixed. I'll be holding off on playing until some new patches to roll out as well. The game as it is currently feels tainted and I don't want to play further where I might potentially run into even more bugs.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

A blast from the past

I have played this on and off for ages so it's great to see this here. The first online FPS I ever played and in my opinion it's one of the best.

Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition

An excellent start to a brilliant series

Compared to the later games in the Batman Arkham series Asylum is a bit clunkier and lesser in content. If you're expecting deeper mechanics compared to City, Origins or Knight you will be left disappointed but what Asylum offers is still very fun. I'd recommend this to people who want to see how the series got started, to people who want experience the complete storyline and to people who can appreciate a spooky atmosphere. Asylum is in my opinion the spookiest game in the series due the insane asylum setting.

Horizon Zero Dawn™ Complete Edition

A very enjoyable open world action game!

First off - what a beautiful game, I only fast travelled a few times throughout the 70 hours it took for me to beat all the side quests and main story. Graphics are absolutely top notch! The combat is also very solid, the enemies don't just feel like damage sponges like in the modern Assassin's Creed games because each enemy has a specific weakness you can target to make it as easy as possible for yourself and I don't mean just the elemental weaknesses, I mean like shooting a rocket launcher off an enemy so he won't be able to launch rockets anymore, making an enemy explode by shooting explosive canisters with fire arrows or breaking their coolant canisters, making the enemies brittle and more vulnerable to arrows. It was very interesting experimenting with each monster's weak spots and I felt legitimate satisfaction once I found the ultimate strategy for each monster. The game is definitely more of an action game than an RPG though. You have skills & equipment stat modifiers and that's about it. The dialogue choices don't matter at all besides a few different lines of dialogue. However, I'd definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys open worlds, unfogging the map & exploring every map marker and picking up collectibles on the way. I think it's a small miracle this Sony exclusive somehow ended up on GOG. Hopefully we get Forbidden West as well eventually because I'm a fan and want to see this first entry improved upon. Thank you Guerilla!

Anno 1404: Gold Edition

A masterpiece!

I occassionally enjoy a city builder and this is by far the best I've played and I'm glad this masterpiece is DRM-free and free from Ubisoft's invasive meddling. You shouldn't go into this game thinking "I'm just going to beat the campaign" which actually serves to be more like a very lengthy tutorial in my eyes simply because the amount of content in this game is just massive. The biggest strength for me is the custom mode where you can pretty much make it as easy or as difficult as you want for yourself. Pretty much every setting you want to customize is available to you leaving you free to play the game however you want. You can even turn off enemies if you like, to purely focus on developing your settlements for that calm Zen experience. Absolute must have for city builder fans!
