Killed by a Killer Whale. Appropriate.

I like this game. A lot. It`s a peaceful (sometimes) almost thoughtful game of whaling men out to get their fortune in whales, with you as the Captain. Whaling is a damn dangerous job and men can be seriously injured or killed. Not only that, but you have to make decisiona onboard that may affect the morale\life of your crew. For me looking after your crew is the most enjoyable. The fighting when it happens is usually when you find a whaling spot and must get the whale. It then turns into a turn-based card game where you pick the best men for the job and make the best choice you can. It`s a bit confusing at first since sometimes none of you can act, depending on conditions and simply have to bare the brunt of a whale attack until next turn. Also don`t forget to actually choose whalers when you pick your crew, first time I just picked all cabin boys and was wondering why nobody was fighting! You get singing from the crew too which is real nice and appears to be historically authentic. I like to adjust the volunes just right so the sloshing of the waves mixes with the singing. The Devs wisely used sound effects to good effect since visually you don`t really see that much! Artwork is good olde-fashioned type art that reflects those days. Good game.

仰冲异界

It`s quite good, but...

This is a puzzle solitary game. no shooting, no fighting (not that I can see). just a `place` that`s eerily silent and you`re plonked in it without a clue. It`s basically another version of Myst. You see almost no living sentient being except maybe one guy. And he`s not much use. What i don`t like about games like these is the rare NPC that refuses to divulge information for `gameplay` even though it would help them to. They really kill immersion. If it was real they`d explain a lot more about what`s happening. However, if you put the time into exploring and figuring how to get things working, there are some amazing sights to see and interact with, especially in VR. One such sight had me gawking like a small kid. VR as well as Normal mode works. VR is a bit hit and miss sometimes and always needs resetting. Some settings don`t stick if you prefer to `walk` rather than `hop` around; you have to keep re-enabling them whenever you take the HMD off. also where you look moves your direction; again really annoying if you want to move `naturally`. you can`t switch it off. Other than that, pretty good, the game needs its people to act more like people and VR to actually stick to the control mode you select.

Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood™

"PLACE YOUR FIRE OVER THERE!"

But got it again for GOG! Excellent and very realistic tactical 1st person wargame that actually attempts to recreate the viciousness and quick thought under pressure that was required by US soldiers taking on smart Germans in WW2. You have a bunch of guys of varying roles which you need to place in good positions when attacking or defending, often while under heavy fire. If you ever watched band of Brothers and wanted a small idea of what it must be like under that, get this game. Few other 1st person war games have matched it and the AI is very good as well. "PLACE YOUR FIRE OVER THERE!"

BATTLETECH - Digital Deluxe Content

Average.

Average. If they spent more time working on making a good game and less on sjw politics, it would be a good game.

Unreal Tournament GOTY

A game from the Golden Age of Gaming.

Remember waiting for this game as it boasted to do everything I liked. Multiple npc AI in multiple game stages like Capture the flag, Deathmatch types, and more. Even a small campaign around lots of interesting beautiful maps to shoot in. It got delayed a couple of months and finally released. It did everything it said it would- It kept its promise on release (unlike most games today). Assault is a joy. You can make your character then choose multiple npcs to join you on the other side and name them. Even later UTs have not given us this range of options and its why it remains the best to this day. Words aren`t enough. I have the original, but bought this anyway. I advise that any 1st person shooter gamer buy it. It represents the Golden Age of gaming we once had.

NEO Scavenger

I just can`t keep warm!

This is game treats you like real life would if you found yourself out alone, in a hospital gown with no civilisation left... Harshly. Or neutrally fairly, since Nature has no favourites, except whoever survives. You have to survive by the very basics. Find clothes, find food, fight! Pretty much everything is out to kill you, even the weather. My biggest problem was freezing to death, I just couldn`t keep warm. I died several times. Finally, I found I could wear more clothes, make fires, find stuff to help make fires easier and how to eat. It`s all very logical. At one point I had a fire going (finally) some meat and a stick and I thought, "Now in real life I`d stick this meat on a stick and cook my piece of meat, will it work here?" And it did! It was nice to see a game actually work logically than by gamey logic. Now I have some decent shoes, several layers of clothes, a sharp spear, a rifle (but no bullets) and have survived several small fights... Fights are no pushovers by the way. Getting hurt is not good, even if you win. I like how this game forces you to think. My only criticisms is the lack of sound effects (rain is good), graphics and not being able to make my own character with his own name. Good game.

Need to Know

Not like.

Starts off interesting at first, but then gets very arbitrary. You can make your own character face, although the options are limited and if you play a Black guy you look white in game and your family area white. Guess I`m adopted, then changed skin colour. Anyway, you work for a very covert secret Agency of the Government. You have to click and pick on suspects that you, no THEY, consider are suspect. One thing I found interesting was when I was in an interview where you could say `Nothing wrong`. I chose an option that I suspected they wouldn`t like. To my surprise I was just dropped out the game. Seriously? There was something creepy about the way it did that, like it was saying, "You chose the bad option therefore YOU are bad! End game!" It felt very Authoritarian. That was the first bad taste. After that the game got seriously sad and boring and I quit.

Cultist Simulator

Hardly a simulator

I expected a lot more. Brought it more for the name than what it actually was. This game is more like a strange, esoterical card game...too esoterical. I guess I was expecting something that would enable you to build a group, manage it and try to take over the world. Found it unintuitive and boring to be honest, like reading a sort of weird horror book... with cards. Maybe the fault is mine, but I stopped and didn`t even bother with the extra added stuff. Haven`t been back. Sorry.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Complete Pack

Good game, with some silly limitations.

I got this originally on Steam, wish this had been out on GOG then. 1. The game is very tactical and strategic. Even on Normal you need to plan what missions to take to quell the Alien menace and exactly how you`re going to fight the tactical battles. Countries who are a part of the Xcom project will soon cease funding if you do too badly or ignore them as panic envelopes them. You find yourself in a race to develope more weaponry, more research and more facilities because the Aliens soon start to ramp up the pressure further. On Iron man rules (No reloading) it can be deflating to watch your perfect trained Squad, customised and named all bite the dust. You become attached to your crews and feel bad for them when even one die; just like the old game. We don`t like them dying, but that possibility must be there and the Devs have understood this. 2. Very atmospheric cutscenes. I`m not really a fan of cutscenes and flashiness, but the Xcom cutscenes do a good job of bringing Xcom to life. You see your assault plane takeoff and land with the soldiers running out. I`m disappointed with the Jet to UFO take downs, it`s just a very plain screen. Seeing the UFO take down from a guncam, for example. 3. The game does escalate the situation bit by bit. Graphics are good. Sounds are pretty decent and troops waffle on the situation. Customisation is not bad with the added pack, but voice options are weak. There are 5 voices... all American. Odd for an international force. Complaints: No ammo limit. Arbitrarily limited on what you can take. One grenade. You can`t pick up fallen stuff off wounded or dead friends. Control-wise, it was ok with the mouse, but I didn`t like how I always have to `double-ok` a command. Anyway, the game does suck you in and despite my whines, it`s actually very enjoyable. I just wish they had not gone so far in limiting the game down for the kiddies; a little more realistic depth would not have hurt it at all.
