Omnitrend released this a year after they released Breach. They play similar to Xcom. (They came out before Xcom). I owned the Amiga version of this, (along with Breach and Paladin 2). Very enjoyable and well designed. Highly Recommended 1988 classic.
This game came with a device called the Lipstick, (play on joy stick). It had a microphone headset. It was used to Fire your ship. It did not respond to specific noises, it ONLY listened for any noise and would Fire when it heard anything. After about 10 minutes of making stupid noised into this, I threw it away. (Would be a collectable nowdays). It was a gimmick and just made the game cost more. Still it is a piece of Computing history.
This is a great start for any Classic RPG Computer game collection. The price is right and the games are great. (Except I never liked Hillsfar, and I bought but did not try the Unlimited Adventures program). The rest of the games are very good. Pools of Radiance started the series. The combat system is very functional and adds to the game. This is part of what was know as the "SSI Gold Box Games". I love this series.
Eye of the Beholder used the same style of interface as FTL's Dungeon Master. Most of us were surprised there was no Law suite. But the Eye of the Beholder games are great. Enjoy some classic RPG goodness. the entire "Gold Box Series" from SSI were fantastic. Especially these and the very different Pool of Radiance series.
The first two Populous games are some of my absolute favorites. They were Awe Inspiring when they came out. When they announced this new sequel, we were thrilled. It came out, I started playing, it was fun but ultimately I was disappointed. It just did not thrill us the way the previous two did. We most likely expected too much. As a game, it is great. As a Populous game is was fun but a letdown. It is well worth the price.
The sound on the Amiga version was MUCH better but this is the DOS version. It is still a 5 star game. This version has more options and better game play than the original. This is another Historical Game that deserves buying and play to recapture a part of Computer Gaming History. Do it!
When I first saw demos of this game.. I didn't know what to think, ( is this even a game? what the heck is going on?). Based on the rave reviews I bought it for my Amiga. What a Game Changer! This was absolutely Unique. You are fighting against a rival god by taking care of your people and screwing over the other god's people. This game is part of Gaming History. It created a whole new category of Computer Games. A Must Buy.
I played this originally on the Amiga then on the PC. Original and challenging. You can't to take the plot lines too seriously. You are an enforcement man for some Evil groups. It has many layers of tactics to choose from on each mission. Very good game!
