The combat system is the same old good stuff from AoD. Some good improvements were made. Now I know this is supposed to be mostly a dungeon crawler, however I was disappointed with the lack of some basic dialogue and non combat interactions. You just keep plowing from one combat to another. For its price, it's a good game to spend an hour or two here and there. Do some combats and retire until next time.
Not that I viewed the original too highly, since it's a pure combat Infinity Engine RPG, but the amount of 'things you'd expect to get enhanced that didn't get enhanced' in this game is even higher than the enhanced editions of BG1/2. Only worth buying if you don't have a digital copy of the originals yet, and on a nice discount/sale.
