I don't really like puzzle and physics games, but that that one looked so cute that I had to try it. It's a pretty good game that don't overstay it's welcome, there is like 3-5 hours max until you'll see everything. But it will leave you with a cute sandbox world and it's fun to swing around on your web. Controls take some getting used to, but overall it's ok.
That game took me by surprise. I tried the demo with thoughts like "Great, another Souls-like with cryptic BS for a story, here we go", but I ended up quite enjoying it. Visual style, gameplay, narrative - it all mesh together so nicely. Art design and music are subjective, but personally I like it. Controls need some getting used to, but overall feel great. It's really fun to use your traversal abilities. And here's the best part - this game is actually a pretty good metroidvania! You earn abilities, which you can use both for fight and travel, there is a ton of secrets, you can go almost wherever - it's all there. So yeah, if you like Dark Souls - get this game, it's actually works quite nicely as a souls-like. If you like Metroidvanias - super get it, it's one of the best ones in years. I bought it 2 days ago and just kept playing. Says 15.5 hours in game, not bad, and that's not a 100%. But I gotta take away some points, because: 1 - it's a cheaper title of a small team and unfortunately there is quite a few bugs in the game. There is also quite a few complaints about game design, but I don't share them. 2 - All armor in the game is cosmetic. And some of the most well-hidden secrets is armor. Just feels like a big waste of time. Good thing that puzzles are fun. Overall solid 4.5 and awesome first game.
Pretty good metroidvania game, feels like a Wonder Boy type, but withoout transformations. Actual skills and upgrades that you get are pretty minimal, but there is a lot of interesting and exciting platforming opportunities that you can do with them. Fighting is simple, but it feels just right. That's the best that I can say about Cathedral - it feels good to play. The map is huge, secrets are everywhere, bosses are tough (Not that much, 4-5 tries max). But by the end I think it goes on a little too much and there is quite a few weird design choises. If you want Wonder Boy type game than Aggelos is a little better one for my taste.
Not much to add to other reviews, besides the fact that it plays nothing like Contra or Metal Slug or "old arcade games". First of all you have hitpoints, whooping five of them on normal. You have your standart gun with infinite ammo, subweapon on cooldown and levels peppered with powerful sidearms. You can dodge, you can cover, checkpoints heal you, etc. For like 3/4 of the game it's really hard to die, besides pitfalls. Then it kicks it up a notch mainly with the bosses, but you just gotta learn the patterns and be patient. Yeah, there is a cheat menu for 100% completion (find secrets, kill X number of guys and don't die on every level) and harder modes (less health), but I can't say that I'm that interested to play more after first story mode clear. Presentation is the best thing going for that game, especially if you like The Warriors, but they couldn't help themselves and add VHS era easter eggs, like every "retro" pixel game must have nowadays. + Oh, and I played with John Sawyer and his one liners are kinda annoying. They are way to dumb and his voice actor sounds like Jon Bailey (Epic Voice Guy)
Can't believe it took me this long to finally play this game. As the title says, it's way better than their previous game: same high level visuals and music, less punishing and more dynamic gameplay. It's not that hard, even in Full Metal Mode (new game+), and I dropped Slain about halfway through. Valfaris got nothing on Contra or Metal Slug, because you don't die in one hit. But yeah, checkpoints are manual, weapon upgrades are optional, so you can make the game unbeatable all by yourself. It took me about 4 hours to beat it both times, nice lenght for run'n'gun. Only thing I didn't like is weapon upgrade system, because you can't respec your points and to upgrade every gun you'll need to beat the game 3 times. Well, maybe 2, if you'll find all secrets. You can beat it with any gun you want, but some just work better. Overall, highly recommend it. Really good, polished and finely tuned action game.
Very much more of the same as the first game, which is simplistic point-n-click game with delightful writing. Really, like 90% of your enjoyment of these games is derived from whether or not you enjoy the writing. Art is great, music is good, but no voice acting, which is ok. but also barely any sounds and animations at all. Lots of punny and 4th wall jokes. I love puns, but I feel like they went a bit over with self-aware humor. Currently there are less cases then in the first game, but it took me almost twice as much time to go through them. Didn't really stumble on puzzles, I just tried to read everything.
Outbuddies is a true Metroid game. Not a -vania, there are no rpg elements like equipment, loot and exp like in Iga-style castlevania games. It's all pure Metroid gameplay, complete with alien world and not knowing what the hell to do. Some nice additions to the formula, like pressured steam based dash and jumps and your companion robot Buddy, who can scan walls for secrets and "hack" enemies. Overall I enjoyed it, but it was a very uneven, frustrating ride with clunky controls. Easily the worst part of the game for me. And being able to glitch jump somewhere only to find some instant death trap instead of a power-up. Wasted a lot of time on that. Specific GOG cons, classic ones: no achievements in galaxy (but in game) and late updates (like a week after steam).
There is a plot somewhere, but most of the time you are gonna be talking with NPCs about their gender, frivolous sex life and shipping gay guys. And the "main plot" is scattered across many letters that you have to find. For such a short game it's quite a lot of reading. But most importantly actual gameplay is really good. It's really similar to Bloodstained, with that awesome feeling of overpower and lightning fast traversal abilities you get near the end of the game. Looks good, feels good, but story is all over the place and it's quite short, like 6-10 hours.
Can't honestly think what to say about this game what others havn't already. It is a nicely paced story for about 5-6 hours and you can play it in different ways depending on your choices. Doesn't really add that much, since the story is 99% the same, but it is a neat gimmick. You can just speedrun it in a couple of hours after first playthrough and try different approach to puzzles. It's not that short. What, you think Monkey Island would be a 20-hour game without moon logic?
Finally decided to give this official releases a shot. And, well - it's bad. I mean, it does have better menu, online multiplayer and actual settings compared to MS Collection, which is to clunky for modern pc. But somehow they made it run even worse than on actual emulators, like Final Burn. Slowdowns are abysmal and it seems sound sometimes desyncs. I know that slowdowns are MS's mainstays, but come on, it's worse than playstation releases way back. As for the game itself: by the time last mission was finally over (it's like half the game in length) I was so done with this game. Missions 1 and 2 are pretty cool, then it drops down for 3 and 4, and mission 5 is really cool, but too damn long and hard.
