GK2 represents what I felt was the hardest of the trilogy! Each game changed how it was done - and this one introduces FMV - and stars Dean Erickson as Gabriel Knight, who I thought did an astonishing job! There's so much to see and so much to do - in GK2 - it can become easy to lose track of what needs to be done next! But because of the scenery and the things that you do - once you do them - the progress of the game and the story that unfolds is pretty amazing.
The third game is amazing and continues to show the amazing lore that went into the game! It is difficult - but a lot of the Sierra games were! Sierra games didn't resolve around just being able to walk through it - there'd be times you may need to stop and think about it - or invite friends and family to see what they thought. Granted the mustache thing... that was a bit far fetched... even for a Sierra game.
When I played GK1 long, long, long ago when it first came out - it was so immersive that it got me interested in wanting to visit NEW ORLEANS (which I've now done like six or seven times!) as well as got me interested in the history of Voodoo. The game does such a great job with the characters in the game; and the feel of everything. It's very easy to lose yourself in the game! I can't recommend this game enough! Murder! Mystery! And... zombies?
The game uses a series of dialogue trees to control what's about to happen to you - and the results are often quite fun. This game reminded me very much of TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY in so many ways and how it looked, felt - even the main character's personality seemed to have a touch of the show. Having replayed it not too long ago, it wasn't AS fun as I remembered it being; but I still managed to enjoy myself.
When I got JADE EMPIRE I got it simply because it was Bioware. Bioware had never let me down, yet. And... They didn't with Jade Empire either. While you don't get the typical NPCs that Bioware was known for traveling with you - the lore, the game mechanics, and the people in the game - create this incredible experience. The game's puzzles are fun, the fights are fun, everything about this game proves that Bioware simply knew how to put a game together.
My friend's father introduced me to a 4 color version of King's Quest I that booted from a 5.25" disk. I'd played other games that were text adventure - or ones that had a static image at the top and some text below - but never had I seen a game where you could control a character walk around trees, open doors, pick up items - and do everything King's Quest did! King's Quest 1 and 2 are pretty light on the story - but King's Quest III is where it all really begins to weave a story! King's Quest III is fun but very, very difficult at times! Escaping the wizard and what you need to do to be rid of him should be your first priority! Just don't get caught with the spell components! Hide them... somewhere.
Most people hail King's Quest VI as the best adventure game - EVER. For me, it's KQIV, KQIV has the whole "night and day" time shifting it does (first time in any Sierra game) and finally puts a heroine at the helm of the adventure! King's Quest V - has Cedric. If you've played... you know. Cedric is King's Quest JarJar Binks. King's Quest VI has some AMAZING story telling, some fantastic music and some great characters - the first time you really keep interacting with the same characters over and over to make the world feel far more alive.
It'd be 5 just for King's Quest 7. KQ7 has a Disney'esque type animation to the game and story that feels like Sierra was trying to make their own Disney cartoon. I knock a star off because of Mask of Eternity... it takes place in Daventry ... but is disconnected really... the graphics in KQ8 are atrocious... the voice acting is horrible. I keep trying to go back and finish KQ8, but there's too many things that keep telling me, there's better things I could be doing that I'd actually enjoy doing.
I love Leisure Suit Larry. I do. I even run LarryLaffer.net and the twitter for it. However, I have been replaying the games - and 1, 2 and 3 are great. However... 5 has some issues. Unlike 1-3, 5 suffers from several things - and it's not even funny. It's borderline ... gross... and even has some humor, that I - as twisted as I am - couldn't get behind. (For example when Patti gets toner all over her and goes down below... there's an immediate comment made that was cringe worthy). LSL5 is a game, that there's minimal puzzle solving (it just does it for you; all you really need is the copy protection for the flights, and then you're just sitting back telling Larry/Patti where to go for the most part). Where LSL5 does one thing right is that it DOES have multiple ways to solve some puzzles.
This game is amazing! The cartoon style fits so perfect! The game story and puzzles are incredibly fun! Leisure Suit Larry: Love For Sail offers so much in regards to Easter Eggs (Yeah Baby!) and regular game play that you can't help but enjoy yourself! The Easter Eggs will often offer... visual benefits... if you do them correctly!
