    Description

A crash landing globe spanning adventure! From the breathtaking splendor of 1930 Asia, three strangers are about to set forsth on and adventure that will span an entire continent.

She is daughter of a ruthless American land baron, facing death somewhere in the lush mountains of central China.

He is a down-on-his-luck pilot with only three days to rescue her.

Their guide to freedom is a shadowy master of stealth and cunning from a far away land.

Together they will travel the crowded streets of Hong Kong, cross the blinding snowfields of the Himalayas and ride the fabled Orient Express... all on a journey of life, love and death that could only begin in the Heart of China.

    • Breathtaking graphics and an original stereo soundtrack bring the adventure to life.
    • A rich, detailed story unfolds through characters that think for themselves, remember your actions and challenge your every move.
    • A powerful yet easy-to-use point and click interface allows you to explore, communicate and interact without typing.

Kate, the daughter of a wealthy businessman named E.A. Lomax, is abducted by a Chinese warlord named Li Deng near Chengdu, where she was volunteering as a nurse. Lomax recruits the former World War I fighter pilot Jake "Lucky" Masters for a dangerous mission: travel to Hong-Kong, locate a mysterious ninja, and find a way to infiltrate Li Deng's fortress and rescue Kate.

Heart of China is an adventure game with a romantic theme somewhat reminiscent of films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark. The game is set during the 1930's in China as well as a few other locations. It uses a simple point-and-click system for interaction and object manipulation, and is very similar visually and gameplay-wise to Rise of the Dragon.

Some of the tasks in the game have multiple solutions, allowing the player to pursue different methods and choose different responses in branching dialogues. However, some choices may lead to the protagonist's death or bring the investigation to a dead end. There are also a few arcade sequences, which can be skipped if the player fails to complete them after several tries. The game utilizes digitized photos of live actors superimposed on hand-painted graphics.

    Such great memories!

I fondly remember playing Heart of China on the Amiga when it first came out. While I'm not sure that the action sequences will hold up (a tank sequence, in particular), the characters and story are fantastic, with beautiful and exotic settings and great artwork. This has an Indiana Jones serial feel to it - a 1930s pilot seeking adventure in the Far East. Looking forward to playing through this again!

    AH HA! It's here!

Wow! Heart of China AND Rise of the Dragon are both up for sale. Thank you so much. I missed playing these games since the late 90's when the computers became too fast to run them at the time (since DOS Box and the fiddling around to make them work properly hadn't come out then). Thanks again for this. Now, how about "Blade Runner" and "Heart of Darkness"? I'd love to see them released too!

    Agree with tmnt482

I did not get to finish this game. Played only maybe a quarter of the game, but I remember how fun it was. tmnt is spot on. Great graphics for it's time on the Amiga. Did have that Indiana Jones feel to it. Glad to see it here on the best game site there is! GOG you keep surprising me!

    Little Gem hidden away.

This is one of the few games I never had the time to finish. I got stuck in the Tank Escape part, and shortly after College Uni Studies sucked all my time, by the time I wanted to play it again I lost my backup and game during the moves. And the 386 PC I had it installed on died and lost everything... I've always wanted to finish this little gem. This game really got me into the RPG scene, back in the days this game along with Monkey Island, Space Quest and Wing Commander it would have used up all my spare time. Also it was such a rare find for a PC game featuring China, back in the days it was extremely rare for a game to feature anything but America cities, or completely fictional lands, so the game was like an interesting Virtual Exploration of China, when the internet was not even born, and there was wikipedia or google map to search and lookup Scienes from China. The game overall was very good, same type of menu and play mode as typical Sierra Games, like Space Quest, King Quest, Larry, etc. Back in the days this would have been among the AAA games line up of games. The story is interesting enough for you to want to complete the game to read the whole thing. It's your typical Hero saves the princess from the enemy type of story.

    Nostalgia

Back then, when the game was released, I was quite young and played it on my older brother's Amiga. Secretly and without his knowledge (at least that's what I believed at the time). I knew really little about games and did not even know how to call the genre. But hell, did I have fun with this! It had just the right mixture of action, fun and excitement. The puzzles were logic and not too hard, and I liked the story very much. I like stories with charming adventurers, tough women and equally mysterious and funny characters. I got all of that here. The real action sequences (for example the tank sequence which was mentioned before) were skipable, as far as I remember. This was really good. I always found them quite fun, but also hard, and I can understand how they can get annoying quickly. You travel to several pictoresk locations, meet interesting characters, experience adventures (some funny, some dramatic). There are many ways to die in this game, but you get rewarded with more than one ending depending on your gameplay and decisions. The gameplay is mostly classic point 'n click with a first-person perspective. Sometimes it is possible to play with different characters. However, the game seems a little more stiff-legged and awkward than (for example) Lucasfilm games. However, this does not bother at all. All in all, the game still looks like it was made from a single mould. The digitised images of the live actors (fun fact: the actors were mostly from the company's own employees and even their families due to a small budget) and the hand-painted sets fit together so well and create a great atmosphere. If you like classic adventure games and can handle the occasional death, I highly recommend this game. Especially for this small price here. I'm very happy to find this little gem here and have a nice little nostalgic flashback.
