NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound

Immediately Crashes in Main Menu

When I start the game it does launch and I make it to the Main menu but it crashes shortly after, no matter where I go. I do notice the game is also getting blocked by my firewall. Is there a form of DRM on this game that is not being reported? It's not the first time a developer has tried sneaking DRM past GOG. I will wait for a few days to see if there is a patch otherwise I will just get a refund.

Drova - Forsaken Kin

Pretty good even with the problems

Do you want to be the toughest hombre around that a roach can kick over? You are built like a pack mule and can carry everything you can pick up. Just watch out for the rats, gnats, and flies... some are tough enough to carry YOU home for dinner. Jokes aside there is not much to complain about in the game. You do have to focus on the fighting and you can be at a real disadvantage if you rush off the beaten path. But if you brush up on your skillz and "git gud" as they say you can still fight and take down your opponents even when the fight is completely unfair to you. Just be ready to save a lot. There is an iron man mode for the sadists out there... I am not one. This game really does the genre some justice and even though it is pixelated, don't let that dissuade you. It's still a great looking game with great pixel art graphics. The exploration is pretty great and there are lot of things to discover and do. Don't for get to rob everyone blind, if someone wants to fight... smack'em and loot'em. Just make sure you win... cause they will loot you too! Do be smart about it... and make sure you steal intelligently... you dirty thief you! Wait... I might be projecting that last part.... tee hee.

Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord

"Nostalgia" is not what it used to be...

When I saw this I admit I allowed my "excitement" to cloud my judgement so I bought it on the spot and now I regret buying it a little but if you enjoyed it in the past you can still enjoy it now. First the positive... The graphics are great. I even liked the little "legacy" screen it shows to the bottom right for what it used to look like. A miniMap? Oh yes why thank you! Everything is mostly as I recall, but I can't say I am sure and I think my regret is hitting me too much right now... maybe because it is still EA... So far it has full controller support... but no mouse support there is some wonkiness here and there like losing focus when naming Characters... but it's easy to fix. There are a couple of Quality of life things I like such as Gold is now Auto Pooled for all and the Shop only shows what your character can equip. You also have a minimap... but it's limited and not really useful as it will get bugged making you have to restart the game to fix it (you wont lose progress) but it does wipe every time you change a floor. So... it's back to making maps from the days of yore, which is NOT the kind of nostalgia I was interested in. You still have to heal up with spells and equip items in the dungeon camp... which I guess is no big deal, but the useless number of spells still sucks and it definitely sucks when you only healer does not get any new healing spells after 7 levels.... which is absolute baloney. You will have to remake characters because of mind numbing madness... another thing I hated from the original. I think this would have been better if it was not so much like the original game. It CAN stand to have improvements that don't ruin the experience in my opinion.

How in the bug?

This game is buggier than bugs bugging bugs... and I do mean game stopping bugs too. In one bug I faced the screen moves up... and does not stop... you can't see anything but you can still move and shoot... but you can't see anything! You have to be in the same row as enemies to damage them with your weapons... but they don't have to be in the same row to damage you. There are a lot of interesting concepts in this game... but boy did they just fail to deliver on them well. You are given "choices" on where to go... but it does not change the story... they are all the same missions regardless of the path you take. Controller support is.... well there... but it is crazy. One moment one controller is controlling one character but then it is controlling another. You can't change controller order and neither can you remap buttons either. And using a controller to play the card game? Nearly impossible... flick the joystick to move the cursor and it flies right across the screen. You might even lose complete control over the game and you have tab or crtl-alt-del out of the game and termination from task manager. The units with Armor Buff is actually "debuff"... seriously if you take all the armor off they are Negative Armor. Power does not seem to scale properly... basic weapons do just as much if not MORE damage than next tier weapons.... I don't know what the devs are thinking but avoid this game unless you played the demo and really liked it. I do "like" the game so it has 2 stars. But for some... this will be a No Stars game. Buyer beware... go and buy some bisquick and make biscuits... you might have more fun doing that!

Original MoM Fan here Worth it!

Okay, am a big fan of MoM since it was on floppy... I have played oh so many hours of the Original and I crank it up from time to time as well. This one is a mostly faithful remake. Like the good old days I actually read through the manual for the nostalgia. The remake manual is not a good as the Original but it does do a good job as a manual. It's MoM, it's updated and for better or worse, I like this version just fine and think most hardcore fans should be able to enjoy it plenty. Now... why only 4 Stars? Well, there are various issues that nag at me with the game. City Scape is not your default view while in city and as far as I know you can't make it default. Game seems to run only 1 or 2 threads... I have 16 cores so bummer there I guess. There are some other Quality of Life items like after creating a settler your entire army gets auto selected even if they are 'garrisoned' and some 1 movement unit will drag your settler down if they go with them. The other is the camera dragging. I really hate the auto focusing that keeping yoinking the camera everywhere. Would prefer it to be a little more controllable. Otherwise... a mostly faithful remake and I am not sad at all that I busted $40 smacks on this game!

Spirit of the Island

Major Bugs!

This game has some Major Bugs. Example, Menu will come up and you cannot cancel, click, or navigate it. Depending on how the menu/ui breaks you can open and close them, sometimes you can't. You have to use Task Manager or Close on the Menu bar to get out of the game and restart from your last save. When you get locked like this you can't save because trying to sleep to get to save gets locked and you lose progress. Multiplayer, you cannot join a private game in session and if you leave a game in session or crash out everyone leaves/crashes out. This game is fun and interesting so far, but I have only been playing for a couple of hours and these have now occured multiple times. It is frustrating so buyer beware, if you are willing to look past these issues in hopes the dev fixes them then you may not be disapointed. Good Luck!

DYSMANTLE

Not Bad but suffers in mid to end game

The main gameplay loop is mostly fun but there are clearly contrived "padding" going on. This game is fun and you should be able to get your moneys worth of enjoyment at full price but if you can get a discount I would say don't hesitate. Breaking things down and hunting for materials is fairly fun but there is a point it become monotonous and there are not enough tools to keep it "fresh" for the long haul. The monsters are not really all that hard once you understand how to time them with the real difficulty coming in when dealing with multiple mobs of different kinds and as long as you don't rush in like a mad hatter you should make short work of most mobs. Now... the padding problem. There are somethings you cannot build without triggering events, and there is some backwards logic... like a baseball bat being better at dismantling things than the "crowbar" you start with. You also have a lot of things to bash which is great, but only 1 tool can hit multiple things at one saving you precious time and monotony but I have found no others. I have not beat the game but I am past the "gas mask" part and boy can I tell you that was "long" tooo long. The area you have to go through was intentionally made long and arduous and was too much for my liking. All that said... bring a couch buddy... smashing things goes so much faster! But if you don't wear different outfits you can get mixed up on who is who easily. Not perfect but pretty darn fun either way... you should not regret this one!

"Controller Support" is a Joke here

Face it folks... Publishers are allowed to say they have "Controller Support" without having to prove that they have it. This game does NOT support controllers. Sure a controller "might" work on the game but there is no support. Support means that controllers can be at least configured... this game does not have that. Support means that you can choose which controller you wish to use for each player... this game does not have that. Support means that you do not have to use a mod or wrapper or other 3rd party tool to make controllers work for your game... this game requires these for controllers to function and to make matters worse the game does not respect your ID order either. I plug in one controller it "might" be working then I plug in a second one... guess what it either does not work or becomes the ONLY working one. Maybe there should be a class action lawsuit against businesses that falsely advertise that there is "controller support" when there clearly is no such thing happening! I am sick of controller support being a constant joke on the PC platform!
