I played for about two hours expecting to be drawn in to this world and game, but I just couldn't. The characters are bland and unlikeable which hinders the whole role-playing aspect moot. The world building aspect seems like a grand strategy but I doubt that I'll every play that long. I get it, it's not a game for everyone, and I would never want to dissuade fans of this series or this genre, but do yourself a favor and buy from a storefront that allows refunds just in case it is not your cup of tea either.

The base game is worth every penny heck it is worth it at double price, but these expansion packs are really not necessary. I bought the season pack and I do not regret supporting HBS, I just wish there were more to these expansion packs than just giving extra things to do in career mode. The best part of this game is the solid story and how you build up your mech stable from lights and mediums to heavy and assaults. The whole sandbox career mode is weak in comparison to the campaign. Yes there are new urban maps and flashpoint missions, but these do not add to the game for a player who has finished the campaign.
I am not much for difficult games, I guess I just like to blow stuff up. When I played this game when it was new, I failed many of the late game missions but I kept coming back, reading a walkthrough and trying again. I, like many others, have bought, played, and gotten tired of many, many games before getting to the end; this game is not one of those. If you like space-based games then you owe it to yourself to pick this one up. There are still plenty of resources available to help you if you get stuck, and it appears to have an active mod community.
