Maybe in a few years this game will be fully playable, for now I've done a few runs. First - bugs with unfinishable quests. Second - Seriously irritated by game mechanics, attunement system got me angry Third - will wait a few months at least for the devs to finish finishing the game. The good: 1. DnD feel 2. Stats and such 3. Turn based combat that's somewhat interesting The bad: 1. Missing item text descriptions. 2. Unfinished gameplay systems (attunement is horrible for example) - TL;DR this game is not finished and I doubt that it ever will be, sadly :( 3. Unclear mechanics, some puzzles require googling to figure out :( 4. Janky gameplay with fps drops 5. The writing and overall story 6. Gameplay bugs carried over from beta.
I'd love to try this game, I spent 2 hours yesterday trying to get this game to run smoothly. I have an old graphics card (GTX 970) but still it should run the game fine, I get fps drops from 460 to 20, the game stutters so badly :( Maybe in the future there will be a performance patch that will make this playable or I'll get a NASA computer to run this game.
I had to play around with settings for a couple of hours just to get the game to barely work and crash often. I remember playing IWD in the past and it was never like this :( I hope that GOG staff will improve the installation and stability of this game, sadly for Windows 7 x64 I advise that avoid this title for now :(
TL;DR for those who played DOS2 and want to decide whether it's worth playing DE for new content: Cons: * You'll barely notice any changes * Endings (Mass Effect 3 syndrome) were not changed * Initiative system is still as irritating and unrewarding to players as before GOG edition Cons: * DOS2:DE is a bit unpolished now, and every time a patch is released GOG has You downloading 30 GB of data... Temporary Cons: * Many DLL mods don't work, including trader inventory refresh * There's no official editor yet Pros: * The game is as fun as previously + You get a Squirrel now * One new quest, "eh, at least it's something" I have to admit that the game did not change as much as I expected, this is more of a big patch with a little bit of refinement than a 3rd Act Overhaul. What most people found irritating is the ending of the game, it still is quite disappointing and that makes me sad, I thought that the first priority for Larian would be to deepen the ending, add post ending slides or something to highlight what kind of impact did the player have upon the world, sadly this did not happen. Awful round robin initiative system is still in place, this is quite discouraging, I thought they'd reflect upon this weird choice. Also, the inventory system is still quite enfuriating, why give us lots of items that cause the trader inventories to load forever in the latter half of the game, I still don't think that this is the right choice. So, moving on from the irritations and plain bad things, the game is still as addictive and lighthearted as when I played it for the first time, I'm writing this after a full 60h playthrough of DOS2:DE so... It has to do a lot of things right. Combat system, customizations, deep characters that were lacking in DOS1. Months, if not literally years of blood, sweat and tears had to go into the development of all of this. So it's a 4 out of 5, not the perfect RPG but still a great experience.
