Silverfall is finally on GOG!

The legendary game, Silverfall and it's expansion, Earth Awakening are finally on GOG, in one package! Works like a charm! The install is easy, just one click! (With the other non-gog versions you must do tricks to get normally working the expansion.) And this version includes the PhysX Legacy software, what needed to run the game. The game itself is in a very unique world, where you can hire companions, looting, crafting, slay monsters, and you must choose which want you follow: the path of nature or the path of technology? The fonts can be hard to read on higher resolutions, because the words are so tiny, but here is the solution: If you want bigger fonts in the game, you can do it, but it's limited to the conversations with the NPC's and the teammates! (The other UI related font-size changes causes UI glitches, so I can't recommend!) - Go to the game's folder: Silverfall-->Data-->Overlay-->Game-->Panel_Dialog - Open this Panel_Dialog file with Notepad - Everywhere, where you find "Times", "Times14", "Times18", or "Times18b", rewrite to "Times27"! - Save the file and close You have now much easily readable conversations! Overall I can recommend this beautiful game, and the GOG version! Thanks, GOG!

Miss this beaut...

Played the first game years ago in high school and got excited upon seeing it in the store today. Beat it 1.5-2 times (Nature all the way) and really appreciated the work that went into it. Its cell-shaded style gives it a different look, its physics cause those creepy Water Spider to become silly when they drop dead, and its world gave the impression of mattering in a sense. It's been too long, so I'll just list out things that y'all should be aware of if considering it. 1) The party members all differ in personality, side quests (oh, boy), skillset, and how useful they are based on your build. 2) Speaking of build, Morka (buff, freeze, slow, and healing spells) and Dril (debuff, poison, and healing spells) were always one of the two companions I ran with. Always. 3) A certain party member has the saddest side quest, lemme tell ya. Try to avoid that spoiler so you can experience it raw. 4) Admittedly, I usually made Hulart (Druid) the 2nd companion once I found him because he was 100% Nature. 5) The loot system's great. Had a lot of fun switching stuff out and debating between different sets. 6) Getting to see the result of my Nature/Technology decisions in the major cities was visually wonderful. They looked completely different depending on the path chosen. 7) The end boss fight was... an interesting implementation. My only complaint about the whole game, actually. I just didn't care for the way they went about it overall (pre-battle scene and the fight itself). That being said, I recall the battle feeling intense but I don't recall if it was challenging. 8) Having briefly played Diablo II before it and abandoned the game because it felt like a plot-less loot-grind, I must say that I really enjoyed Silverfall. 9) Keep in mind that the game's modable. 10) Admittedly (and shamelessly), I primarily became interested in the game because of its cover. Few times in my life has such a decision seriously paid off.

Don't give up!

I almost quit early in the game. One of the early side quests was a buggy mess. Simple escort mission, but the refugees that you had to escort kept getting stuck in weird places likes tree's. Then there is always getting stuck on everything which was a real nuisance. But after getting my first companion the game just pulled me in, and all of the sudden those little things didn't bother me anymore. I love the art style, and enemy designs are great. And then there is the constant grind for loot that wouldn't let me stop. 4 hours seemed like just minutes to me. I can officially say that I am hooked on this game. I've owned this game twice before and never bother ed to play it. I regret not doing so much sooner.

Wanted to like it but...

I did have fun with this game in the very beginning, when I had to inch my way forward through the swamps and conserve my potions. I tried to separate the enemies from each other, so that I wouldn't have to fight groups of them at once, and during these early struggles, the game felt fresh and interesting. But then you get a companion that heals you constantly, and the game is completely trivialized. And you realize that the cheapo storytelling, cheapo quest designs and cheapo map designs are all basically exactly like what you'll see in a bad MMORPG. No interesting special encounters or battles. No interesting treasure chests. No puzzles, tricks or traps. just rote, repetitive, spammy combat that you mostly don't even need to pay attention to in order to win. There are also loads of skills and perks, but it's all so badly balanced that most of it is bad or outright busted. I used most of my gold to reassign skill points. The stores never have anything useful anyway. Then you discover fast travel, and the game officially doesn't have any excitement left at that point. Zip around and do busywork. Then delete the game when it's all turned into complete mental white noise. I love CRPG's, but this one is in the lowest tier for sure.

After all this years...

Silverfall is a hack n slash - Diablo clone and one game directly linked to my childhood and a game I still owe a physical copy. After almost two decade I had the chance how playing it again! .... welp, removing the nostalgia glasses, it's pretty alright. Basically, the skill tree, crafting your own gear and the whole technology- nature conflict is what set this apart from it's competition, what really made it special, but besides that it's pretty bland. However, this does not mean it's bad, if you are a fan of the genre or simply want to try an old gem (for its time), this could be for you.
