Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Enhanced Edition

Political agenda

4/5 or even 5/5 for most of the gameplay, combat, character generation with multiple classess and races. 3/5 or probably less, for story and writing. 1/5 for plethora of bugs, performance issues, broken quests, etc. Kingmaker was even worse in this regard but that's not an excuse. Again, using players for testing. 1/5 for WXYZ agenda thrown at the player from all possible corners. You are greeted by two lesbians - hell, maybe even one of them shemale - that play very important part throughout the story. Later on you meet one gay, one male bi, each flirting with the player character from the start, few hours later a fallen succubus - which is probably the most sincere of them all - and some time later after reaching certain council, you get a sex offer from a demon lord in male form. At this point I'm kinda afraid of continuing. What's next? Optional demon orgy in the abyss? Is this really what the community wants from CRPG? Date/sex sim with all alphabet letters and configurations? If that's the case, I'm not sure I want to be a part of such community. I preordered Wrath because I liked Kingmaker. True, alphabetic agenda was present in the first one as well, but was entirely skippable as a side content. This time, not so much. I will not repeat that mistake. If I ever consider buying anything from Owlcat, I'll check first for any political crap they may force in the game. If it'll be like in the Wrath, that's a huge skip for me.

Grimoire : Heralds of the Winged Exemplar

Pain to play

Overall, the premise seems interesting. Huge, complicated world, races, classes, whatever you need for a solid RPG... ... but then I started to play. First combat took roughly 5 minutes. Second, around 10 minutes. Suddenly I realized why there was a mention of "600 hours of gameplay" somewhere. It's so slow, it's basically just unplayable. And combat messages were completely useless, no information about damage done, but only what body part was hit? Ehrm.... what? From all important things that can happen in combat, author chose that and nothing else? Maybe if combat is fixed, I'll give it another go, but for now, it's a big no.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Plus Edition

Great game!

Yes, this game has bugs. And balance issues. And, if played on difficulty higher than normal, makes people come here and write a one star review out of frustration :) (I suggest watching at least parts of some playthrough to get the idea how hard it is) Not to mention that full rulebook for D&D Patfinder Kingmaker is hundreds of pages long and not included in game, so a lot of aspects are not properly explained. Still, I don't remember having so much fun since Baldur's Gate 1 or PoE1. In my personal ranking by far the best RPG in last few years. Trumps over PoE2, easily. Overland map is great, similar to old Realms of Arkania games, but better. Personally think it's much better than world like in DOS1 or 2. Camping is cool, not required every night, with frequency depending on fatigue, which in turn depends on constitution stat (IIRC). Combat is good, pretty similar to Infinity Engine, real time with pause - although turn based combat similar to ToEE would make this game legendary :) too bad... So far, writing is very good, story pretty standard, but interesting enough, driven mostly by dialogs which is great. There are timed quests, but so far I haven't failed any. It seems that following one particular quests can fail another one, which is great idea, actually. I didn't play the kingdom building part long enough, but even the first chapter alone is better than many games :) So, if you don't mind reading descriptions of hundreds of feats, spells and abilities, it's a must buy!

Move on, nothing to see here

I don't own this game on GoG. Character generation. Choose gender... erm... pronoun. Choices: He, She, They... ... GET ALL THAT POLITICALLY CORRECT S*** OUT OF MY GAMES! NO, SERIOUSLY! YES, I MEAN IT! Moving on to the next game....

Expeditions: Viking

Just plain horrible

Honestly, I don't know what game authors of positive reviews were playing, but this one is a piece of early alpha rubbish. Don't waste your money now, wait until they fix bugs and stupid features. In random order. Poor performance, long loading times, long saving times - played on a machine with standard, non SSD drive. After few hours, story is pretty bleh, maybe later it gets interesting. One interesting NPC character so far. Poor UI, and no minimap in towns. Overland map is just boring and not readable. Few cities, and a lot of camps with not much to do. No special encounters so far, just two or three types of maps. Also somehow I couldn't find any herbs anywhere... what camping action is be for that? Hunting? Combat difficulty is so inbalanced, that it is crazy. Whoever starts combat wins most of the time, and whatever factors influence who gets the first turn are hidden, maybe it's just random. If enemy gets the first turn, you'll have 1-2 chracters down before having a chance to react. In most cases losing your main character. Melee attacks always hit, the only way to block is with shields, and they lose durability equal to damage, so get useless after for 2-3 blows. If defender is succesful with blocking that is. On the other hand ranged attacks never damage them. Weird. Anyway, developers probably never heard of parrying or dodging. Stunning attacks work most of the time, apparently regardless of defender stats, so go figure. Cool (or cheap) when used by the player, not so much when used by AI. But the final straw is the time limit, that I wasn't even aware is present in this game. After playing for couple of hours, after camping I just saw 'Game Over' screen that appeared for no apparent reason. I thought it was a bug, reloaded save, tried again with the same result. After googling a little I learned that it was a - horrible - feature, that game ends after two weeks. Without any warning. In short, stay away from this piece of $#@^ until they fix it.

Tyranny - Standard Edition

Decent, but not that great

Tyranny's short - my first and so far the only playthrough with most if not all side quests took ~17 hours. It's also very linear, i.e. new areas appear one or two at a time based on the main story progression. Most areas are very small, tiny even. Quite a few quests are simply: receive a quest, go to a specific, small and nearly empty location, talk/fight some encounter, go back to the questgiver. That's it. Some PoE mechnics are removed, like there's no stealing, even items in closed containers can be taken without owners protesting. Bestiary is limited as well, most enemies are humanoids. Forget monsters or dragons. Graphics - well, tastes vary, it's original, but for me kinda worse than PoE. Also, I've had some performance issues, namely FPS drops, but that may be fixed in the future. There are good parts as well, story is kinda weird, but ok, writing uneven but sometimes excellent, combat is decent, skills interesting. All spells are created from, say, "components". There are no classes, all six skill trees are open to Player Character, with two limitations in form of available skill points and requirements inside each tree. There are total of five, small havens for player. Main story has few memorable moments, but feels kinda bland. I may try to replay it and see how different choices affect game story. Developers led us to believe that it may be the strongest point of the game with the whole "choices do matter" thing. If that's the case I may increase my rating in the future. Final words: unfortunately, for me Tyranny feels like a - bland - Pillars of Eternity demo. A little rushed in nearly all aspects, a little too short with nowhere near production value as PoE, no final touches that made me wanna explore the world and follow a story. And yes, it's also a little buggy, but nothing game breaking. Still, I've managed to finish it.
